End of season international duty for Richie Towell and Filip Twardzik

|

Richie Towell and Filip Twardzik’s seasons have ended in disappointment with Ireland and the Czech Republic losing out in end of season honours.

Ireland’s u-19 side beat Bosnia-Herzegovena 1-0 today but were beaten into second place by England who drew 1-1 with hosts Ukraine thanks to an 83rd minute equaliser from Dean Parret just two minutes after Ukraine had taken the lead.

Connor Clifford scored from the penalty-spot in Ireland’s win over Bosnia but a four goal winning margin was required after England and the Ukraine had both put four past the Bosnian’s.

Only the group winners go forward to the final stages in France with England edging through a point ahead of the Irish who they beat 1-0 in the opening match.

Towell played in all three matches and looks certain to graduate into the u-21 side next season.

At u-17 level the Twardzik twins were in action for the Czech Republic in Lichtenstein where they were drawn in the same group as eventual winners England as well as Turkey and Greece.

Both of the Celtic twins were in the side that lost the opening match 3-1 to England with Patrik relegated onto the bench for the draws with Turkey and Greece.

England went on to win the tournament beating Spain 2-1 in the final.

The Twardzik twins have packed in a lot of experiences into their 18 months at Celtic as well as at international level.

The demands of playing football in Scotland are different from they’ve been used to in Germany where their older brother Dan is a goalkeeper at Karlsruher.

Taking the next step up is always the hardest for young players with Filip and Patrik likely to be regulars in next season’s Celtic u-19 side.
