The Sun stands 100% behind it’s Kris Boyd story

|

The Sun has refused to back-down from their Kris Boyd for Celtic story and have hit back with some stinging criticism of the Celtic board.

“Welcome to the silly season,” said the denial of the story on the Celtic website with The Sun firing back with: “You could argue that a silly season was one where a board presided over a campaign that saw them win no trophies and appointed a manager who flopped horribly and had to be emptied after a 4-0 thumping at St Mirren.”

OUCH!

Football clubs and newspapers require some sort of relationship but like all relationships things can get strained at times.

The internet offers clubs the chance to communicate directly to supporters but the circulation figures of newspapers still shows that they are delivering news to massive numbers of fans.

Celtic’s put-down of the Boyd story was as blunt as denials get, even more so since the club rarely comments on speculation with a daily diet of players linked with transfers.

Despite that official denial The Sun is sticking to it’s guns and throwing more accusations about revealing some details of the behind-the-scenes everyday goings on at a national newspaper.

The Sun claims: “When the truth of behind-the-scenes manoeuvres this summer emerges – possibly when Boyd signs for a new club and is free to talk – there will be major embarrassment for some. Not for us.

“In transfer dealings football clubs love to hurl around words like honesty, dignity and integrity. They seldom practice any of them – that is the way of the world.

“We’ll continue to make it our mission to bring you those stories even when the Old Firm clubs HATE the timing of them.”

Time will no doubt be a healer in this little row, Celtic have put on their denial, the newspaper has hit back and when Boyd moves on there will be some mention of interest or the story about Celtic’s interest.

Meanwhile out on the park Cillian Sheridan won his first full international cap in Ireland’s 2-1 win over Paraguay last night.

The striker has been way off the radar of most Celtic supporters over the last 18 months but if he is rated by Giovanni Trapattoni he must be worthy of serious consideration by the next Celtic manager.

Bluff and double bluff? Never sure with this lot-they could tell you Elvis lives in Govan with Marilyn and make it sound plausible. Apparently, Mal Donaghy his agent says he was approached by Celtic. The plot thickens…

Mal Donaghy? Last week it was Gerry Armstrong!

This ‘story’ looks very like the ‘Scott Brown to be sold’ story in the Record in January.

Both side’s have a pop, or a blast at each other, make their point and move on.

    Forever the way.
