Park Ji-sung the key to Korean victory

|

Qualifying against Nigeria

South Korea will again pin their hopes on inspirational Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung to take them past Uruguay into the last eight of the World Cup.

Park has led by example so far in guiding the Korean’s through the group stage ahead of Greece and Nigeria.

Celtic midfielder Ki Sung Yeung has been one of the Korean’s that has benefited most from his experienced team-mate and will again be in centre midfield for the clash with the South American’s.

Park is playing in his third World Cup and is dreaming of repeating the success of 2002 when as join hosts the South Korean’s reached the semi-finals.

The Manchester United man said: “We ourselves don’t have a clear conviction of how far we can go.

“But in 2002, we made it to the semi-finals and I don’t think that was just because it was on home ground. We will do our best to prove that was not the case.

“I can’t compare this team to the 2002 team. That was the best team in our history but this 2010 team is improving and we have got through the first round of games.

“Shortly, at the end of this World Cup we are going to compare the previous team with this one and hopefully then we can say we are better.”

He added: “Although we haven’t had good results against the teams from South America, the group stage match against Argentina has given us some good lessons on how to deal with Latin American sides.

“We all know how to defend and attack against them, and we’ll show a different side of ourselves than in the group stage.”

Sure, home crowd advantage is important but not as important as the fare served up by the players ON the field. The Korea Republic well well worth their semi-final spot and they are a pleasure to watch when they are on song. I hope Ki has a blinder and we see the best of this team. Forlan though? What a player he is and he will be the biggest threat to the Koreans. Looking forward to a good game here. Hail Hail.

Totally agree with Eddie’s comment about Forlan…
I hope our Ki imposes himself a bit more than he has done so far..although he is young and still learning…….wonderful experience for him.
Like Eddie…looking forward to a great game.
