Cillian Sheridan signs for CSKA Sofia as coach resigns

|

Cillian Sheridan completed his £300,000 transfer to CSKA Sofia this morning only for coach Paul Dockov to resign in the afternoon.

Dockov has only been in charge for three months but after three league games in charge the club’s management decided on a change.

The writing was on the wall for Dockov when a notice was posted on the club website this morningthat an announcement on whether Dockov would stay in charge or a new coach would be appointed.

It didn’t take too much reading in-between the lines to realise that Dockov’s days were numbered.

The coach’s departure won’t effect Sheridan who completed his medical and agreed terms on Friday but found his move held up by the fact that the Bulgarian FA closed for business at 3pm on Friday.

CSKA will face Welsh side The New Saints on Thursday in the Europa League with Sheridan expecting to make his debut. A win over the Welsh side would take CSKA into the Europa League and a possible return to Celtic.

The striker flew out to Bulgaria on Thursday after an exhausting midweek that saw him play the full 90 minutes for Ireland’s u-21 side against Estonia on Tuesday night then make his first full international start 24 hours later when he lasted an hour of the 1-0 defeat from Argentina.
