Cillian Sheridan targets Porto

Bulgarian Bhoy

Cillian Sheridan is looking to open his Europa League account against Porto on Thursday after notching a double for CSKA Sofia in the 2-0 win over Montana on Saturday.

CSKA went down to a last minute defeat away to Besiktas in their opening Europa League tie and will be looking to Sheridan to take something from the clash with Porto.

“We’re looking forward to the Porto match now,” the former Celtic striker admitted his double against Montana. “Hopefully we can keep it tight at the back and I can put a chance away, it’s an important match and we need to take something from it.

“We played quite well in Besiktas but were unlucky to lose a goal in the last minute, hopefully we can play as well against Porto without losing anything.

“Last week was the first time that we’ve had a full week of training without any midweek matches, that helped a lot, it allowed me to understand the rest of the players better and how the side plays.

“The win was important and gives us something to build on, scoring twice was great for me but the win for the team was more important.

“I was very pleased with my second goal but as a striker every goal matters and it doesn’t matter how they go in.

“At any club if you are a striker and not scoring there will be pressure on you, I just need to keep scoring and that will improve my confidence and bring out the best in my game.

“There are a couple of internationals coming up as well and I’d like to make an impact. They are important matches that we’re looking to take full points from.”

In the other tie in Group L Rapid Vienna are at home to Besiktas.
