Malky Mackay has picked up the The League Managers Association Performance of the Week after his side’s 3-1 win away to QPR on Friday.

The five man panel of panel Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry gave the award to the former Celt after his side’s impressive televised performance at Loftus Road.

The weekly award is given to the manager with the best result of the weekend with Lambert the previous winner after helping Norwich to a 2-1 win away to Derby County.

Despite the win at QPR coming on the back of beating Sven Goran Eriksson’s Leicester the previous week, Watford are currently sitting in 14th place in the Npower Championship with just nine points seperating the relegation and play-off places.

Mackay will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be screened on Sky Soccer Saturday on 18th December before his side face Watford at Vicarage Road.

Watford go into that match without former St Mirren midfielder Stephen McGinn who has made a big impact since his January transfer.

“He’s really taken to Championship football – and he’s shown that more than ever of late,” Mackay addmitted when he heard about McGinn’s injury..

“He’s been a real plus point for us this season. He does a lot of nice, unfussy stuff for the team, things that aren’t always immediately noticeable or have wow factor about them.

“You saw that in Friday night at QPR where he linked up really well with Danny Graham.”
