Can Motherwell halt Hooper?

|

Gary Hooper Celtic newsCeltic striker Gary Hooper has got the bookies running scared.

The 15 goal striker came up with a double in last week’s 3-0 win over Rangers with plenty of supporters backing him at 13/8 to score at anytime.

Celtic are strong favourites to see off Motherwell at lunchtime today to crank up the pressure on Rangers who play St Johnstone at 3pm.

Some punters might be put off by odds of 20/21 on Hooper scoring at anytime today but with Celtic on a 17 match unbeaten run even at those odds the former Scunthorpe striker is worth backing.

Motherwell will be without upto half a dozen regulars including captain Steven Craigan.

The pitch at Fir Park was largely responsible for St Mirren’s midweek win over the home side with Michael Higden’s shot taking a huge deflection from a divot to beat goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

While the surface won’t be the best Celtic showed in their recent 3-1 win away to Dundee United that they can be just as effective regardless of the conditions.

Against Rangers at Ibrox earlier this month Motherwell lost 6-0 with a repeat of that result priced at 66/1.

In England West Ham have managed to get a few results recently and look value at 12/5 at home to Liverpool who were in Europa League action on Thursday.

At Wembley the first trophy of the season will be decided with Arsenal taking on Birmingham City.

Arsenal are priced at 4/9 to win in 90 minutes and 1/4 to win the trophy overall. Birmingham will be very difficult to break down with the draw after 90 minutes priced at 10/3 probably offering the best value in the match.
