Richie Towell will turn his back on el Classico to head to Hampden to cheer on Celtic in the SFA Youth Cup Final.
Twelve months ago the on loan Hibs defender lined up alongside Matty Hughes, Callum Bagshaw and Greig Spence as Celtic completed the 2010 double with a 2-0 win over Rangers at Hampden.
Some purists may prefer a living room view of the action from Madrid but for raw passion and commitment with some football thrown in as well Towell will happily make his way to Hampden.
“I wouldn’t want to miss this match and it’ll be great to meet up with so many friends at Hampden,” the Dubliner explained. “And hopefully they can get a good win.
“I’d love to be out on the pitch but unfortunately I’m too old now so I’ll need to sit back and watch the game.
“Last season the fans were amazing for us and I hope that the players put on a good show for the fans- I’m sure that they’ll get right behind the team.
“The lads have did well to clinch the title but a cup final at Hampden against Rangers is a different test for everyone.
“They’re bound to feel a bit nervous but you can work on that to give you an extra edge on the night.
“Cup ties are special, there are plenty of upsets and I’m sure that every one of the Celtic players will be well aware that they won’t get away with less than 100%.
“I’ve been in touch with a few of the lads and congratulated Stevie Frail, Chris McCart and Tommy McIntyre to congratulate them on winning the league.
“A few of the lads have had a text from me and I’m looking forward to seeing them again tonight.
“I’m sure that if they are at their best they can come out on top and make it another memorable night for everyone there.”
