Emilio Izaguirre: Everything has been a godsend

|

Emilio Izaguirre Celtic newsCeltic defender Emilio Izaguirre won’t take any risks with his fitness to play for Honduras in the Gold Cup.

Scotland’s Player of the Year was substituted in a number of matches towards the end of the season as the wear and tear of moving straight from the World Cup into a new campaign took it’s toll.

Understandably the Honduran media would like to see Izaguirre move on to play in a more glamorous league but from his answers in this interview with Hugo Navarrete of La Tribuna he comes over as very genuine and in no rush to ‘work his ticket’.

Honduras open their Gold Cup campaign on Monday June 6 against Guatemala and will also face Jamaica and Greneda in their group.

LT Physically and emotionally, how come to this call?

EI ‘I come to play many games and leave with every desire to contribute to the group, I hope to God we do a good job, in the soul is always motivation for a player to be named to the selection.

LT ‘How is the evolution of muscle soreness?

EI ‘Everyone knows that some days ago I had problems with my thigh and I’m recovering. Dr Jose Manuel Mathews checked me and told me it is due to an overload therapies and I hope I make it this weekend and will have recovered.’

LT Does the approval of Celtic to play?

EI ‘The team has not wanted or welcomed to play the Gold Cup, I had a heavy load for so many matches, they tested me and told me I had muscle strain, so I made therapies here at home, because I want to be with selection.

LT ‘Upon arrival in Houston, will she know if he plays or not?

EI ‘If the medical staff has the final word, I meet present and if medically I can not, will not play, my desire is to participate, I have faith in these days of recovery and contribute to the group in the competition, if not given to accompany final group.

LT ‘The performance of the selection to El Salvador and style of new coach, what do you think?

EI ‘As a player I have to respect and not criticize the coaching schemes or performance of peers, no one likes to blame, especially if it comes from a player, we have to comply with the rule the coaching staff and as time passes will reflect whether it is good or not their job.

LT ‘Have you had communication with the coach?

EI ‘I met him in Korea, we talked a bit and he explained his plans and I always offer my disposal in the selection, taking this process with the same seriousness and responsibility that I took when I was the professor Reinaldo Rueda, is a new phase with the selection.

LT ‘Do you see the team owner Suarez?

EI ‘Selection has always been competition, the fact that playing abroad does not give me a starting position, since he was in Motagua work hard to always be the star and the selection does not say, I will always continue with that mystic while playing outside the country.

Emilio Izaguirre Celtic newsLT ‘Can you win the Gold Cup?

EI ‘You have to face it right the first phase, we can not get confident, you have to win the first three games of the best way to measure and achieve victories den together a good team and to pursue the goal.

LT ‘What about rivals?

EI ‘They are strong, Guatemala has grown at selection and Caribbean teams are always dangerous, especially Jamaica because they are very interesting players in Europe, we must be very focused to beat.

LT ‘Its great time at Celtic, is reflected in the selection?

EI ‘That is not now, since I started my career I have all of me to select one to put up the name of the country gives you everything.

LT ‘How do I live this moment of success in Scotland?

EI ‘Happily, everything has been a godsend, thank you for supporting my parents, wife, because they have been part of this success to support me through thick and thin, always struggled to go abroad, I was given the opportunity and now I work two to continue to aspire to more because it is difficult to stay in a high performance football.

LT ‘Prizes, awards and even a cover story in Scotland, what do you think?

EI ‘I did not expect something unimaginable in my first season out of Honduras, it is all thanks to God and I hope that next year things will be better both personally and collectively

LT ‘Will at Celtic?

I’m happy in Scotland, I have three-year contract with Celtic and I want to go over with them, I am happy at this club, if there is a change that is what God wants, I do not know anything about this subject.

Sounds as if Emilio has been taking English lessons from Derek Johnstone or Ion Fergishun !

Not bad for an 8 month course, hope God wants him in glasgow for a few more years yet, he sounds a really genuine guy, which is more than can be said for the two retards mentioned .

I think it’s probably in whatever language they speak in Honduras and has been translated using an Internet service hence the lack of fluency. Anyway, this guy certainly seems a true believer in divine intervervention, and hey, if it keeps him at Celtic, great.

Izzy has been a breath of fresh air this season, Izzy, Kayal, Commons and Hooper look like they can be the backbone of a good Celtic team, Brown, Ki, Ledley and Stokes also look good enough to make big impacts next season again.

The team we had this season is the best Celtic side since MON left, very unlucky not to win the title especially considering it was under a manager in his 1st season and the 1st season any of them played together, they are still relatively young and cost a little more combined than the 10 million Celtic sold Mcgeady for.

I’m pretty confident about next season, if Rangers sell Bougherra and can’t get hold of Bartley (who i hate to say it looked really solid, better than Bougherra for sure) then i cant see it going any other way.
