Europa League Celtic newsCroatian Marijo Strahonja  will referee Thursday’s Europa League play-off tie between Celtic and Sion.

The 35-year-old PE teacher has refereed twice before in Scotland taking charge of Dundee United’s 1-0 defeat from AEK Athens a year ago and Gretna’s 5-1 hammering from Derry City in 2006.

Celtic have named a 25 man squad for the two matches with Sion which has to includes the Twardzik brothers Patrik and Filip, James Keatings, Lewis Toshney and Paul Slane to comply with UEFA regulations over players developed within the home assocation. Morten Rasmussen and Jos Hooiveld aren’t listed.

Rangers match in Malibor will be refereed by German Manuel Gräfe  while Paolo Tagliavento of Italy will be in charge of the Hearts v Spurs tie.

No Scottish referees have been chosen to referee in any of the 38 Europa League qualifiers or in the 10 Champions League matches.
