Jos Hooiveld Celtic News Southampton have signed Jos Hooiveld on loan until January.

The Dutch defender travelled to the Championship side today and completed a deal despite interest from Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace.

Hooiveld hasn’t featured for Celtic this season and went on loan to FC Copenhagen in January.

Commenting on the move he told the Saints website: “I’m really pleased. I feel that I’ve received a warm welcome and I can already see the big picture that’s building here, so it’s nice to be a part of that.

“Everyone breathes football, and that’s nice, that’s what I’m here for. You can see that everything is around football.

“It’s great. It’s a nice stadium, and the fans are amazing as well, so it’s already made a good impression.

“England is an admirable country to play in football-wise and I think I’ll fit in here as well.”

Saints boss Nigel Atkins added: “We highlighted a number of players for this particular position at the start of the summer and we are delighted that Jos has decided to join us.

“He has experience, he’s a big lad at 6 foot 4″, he’s naturally left footed and can pass the football out from the back.

“He comes from a great football club in Celtic, so it’s good that he has joined our great club and become part of the group that we have got here.

“Dan Seaborne, Jose Fonte, Aaron Martin and big Radhi Jaidi are the other centre halves that we have got, and with Jos coming in it adds another quality player to that group.”
