Manchester City test looms for Celtic kids

Marcus Fraser Celtic NewsYouth team defender Marcus Fraser can’t wait to face Manchester City on Monday after the postponement of consecutive SPL matches.

Fraser has been an ever present for Celtic in the SPL and Next Gen Series and has also made three international appearances for Scotland.

Back-to-back wins over Hearts and St Johnstone got Celtic back to the top of the table but postponments against Rangers and St Mirren means that they’ll face City without a match in the last fortnight.

After beating Hearts we wanted to build on that result,” Fraser admitted. “I feel that the team is coming together.

We showed what we are about against Hearts and got an important win playing some good football. We didn’t stand back and watch them play and everyone was happy with that.

St Johnstone played well against us, they pressed us high up the park and didn’t give us a minute on the ball. We stuck to our task and knew that we had to get the points and we managed that.

The win against Hearts was an important one but you need to keep winning every single game at this club no matter who the opponents are, that’s our job.

On the park everyone has to be at their best, if someone isn’t on form everyone else has to try harder to make sure we get the win.”

Fraser’s name first appeared on the radar with most supporters when he played in the friendly against Athletico Bilbao last season before finishing the campaign picking up medals in the SFA Youth Cup and Glasgow Cup.

An early injury to Jos Hooiveld in the pre-season development team match against Partick Thistle gave him another chance to shine with the 17-year-old delighted with the way that his season is going.

I’m pleased with the way that I’m playing just now but the coaches keep pushing you,” he added. “They want me to keep pushing forward and that’s what I try to do at training and in games.

I enjoyed the development team match against Partick Thistle and felt that I played quite well. I’ve got to concentrate on the u-19 side, we’ve a lot to live upto after the last two seasons but it looks like the team is coming together nicely.”

Like Celtic City have lost both of their opening Next Gen matches, 2-1 at home to Barcelona followed by a 3-0 reverse in Marseilles.

If either side is to qualify for the knock out phase full points will be required in the City-Celtic head to head clashes with the Premiership side visiting Celtic on November 7.

The City match is all ticket at the ground of Hyde on the north east of Manchester, you can follow Monday night’s action on twitter.
