Joe Ledley Celtic newsJoe Ledley is an injury doubt for Sunday’s trip to Dundee United.

The Welshman was stretchered off during the 1-0 Europa League defeat from Atletico Madrid but Celtic are confident that it won’t be a long term absence.

Charlie Mulgrew replaced Ledley and is likely to start against Dundee United in Sunday’s crucial SPL clash.

“It is a twist on the ankle for Joe so he will be doubtful for Sunday,” Neil Lennon confirmed. “We will have to see how he is but I don’t think it is anything too serious.”

Ledley tweeted: “Ankle is swollen going for scan tomorrow. Hope it’s not a bad 1!!

Despite scoring a hat-trick against St Mirren on Saturday Gary Hooper started tonight’s match on the bench although he did appear at half-time, replacing Victor Wanyama.

Lennon explained: “Victor picked up a dead leg and he was struggling with it the last 10 or 15 minutes of the first half so again he could be doubtful for the weekend.”

Despite the defeat a win in their final match away to Udinese will see Celtic progress to the knock-out stage of the competition with Lennon looking forward to the showdown in Italy.

The Celtic boss said: “Udinese are an excellent side and we haven’t won away from home in a long while but we will give it everything we’ve got.

“I thought we matched them (Atletico) for most of the game if not better them. It was an excellent performance and I though we deserved better from it.

“Going into the group we probably have been the underdog out of the four teams.

“I have seen a gradual progression and improvement in all the performances and it is a great stage to play in for these players.

“They came up against an excellent side who defended and counter-attacked very well but I can only give credit to the players for having a good go at it.

“You have to be mindful of Udinese, I would imagine that they would be on the front foot from the off in Italy but we will go for it, as we did tonight.”
