James Forrest Celtic newsNeil Lennon is hoping to have James Forrest available for Saturday’s match with St Mirren.

Forrest hasn’t played since the 3-0 win away to Dunfermline on January 2 and has been one of Celtic’s most influential players this season.

A virus ruled the highly rated 20-year-old out of last Saturday’s win over Dundee United but Forrest should be in the starting XI against St Johnstone with three other longer term absentees also close to full fitness.

“James Forrest should be in contention again,” Lennon told Celtic tv. “Apart from Biram (Kayal) being out for a long time we’ll very shortly have a full quota of players to choose from

“Daniel (Majstorovic), Glenn (Loovens) and Mark Wilson have all trained this week. It might be too soon for them in terms of making the squad.”

Kris Commons made his first appearance in six weeks coming on as a substitute against Dundee United with Lennon hoping for a big contribution from his former Nottingham Forest team-mate.

The Celtic boss added: “Off the back of last season Kris will really be wanting to have a good run of things, he hasn’t really had that opportunity because of niggly injuries.”
