Celtic youth team newsCeltic’s u-19 side clinched the SPL championship today without kicking a ball!

Second placed Hearts lost 2-0 at rivals Hibs leaving them a point behind John Kennedy’s side having completed their campaign.

Celtic have three SPL matches left to play and face St Mirren tomorrow in the semi-final of the SFA Youth Cup.

A ten match winning run finally took Celtic above Hearts when they beat Dunfermline 4-0 on Tuesday.

Ironically enough Celtic’s season started with a roller-coaster 4-3 win away to Hibs featuring a hat-trick for Tony Watt and also a red card for the striker. Two Next Gen Series matches away to Marseilles and at home to Barcelona ended pointless with a 1-1 draw away to Aberdeen and 2-0 home win over Dunfermline completing the first month of the season

SEPTEMBER

A convincing 5-0 win over Dundee United was followed by a frustrating 1-1 home draw with Motherwell as the hoops dropped behind Hearts in the title race. Dylan McGeough made his debut in the 2-0 win away to the Edinburgh side with the goals from John Herron and Rhys Murrel-Williamson proving crucial.

OCTOBER

McGeough scored his first goal in the 3-1 home win over St Johnstone before the highlight of the season- so far- a 4-2 win away to Manchester United. Despite losing the first goal John Herron equalised before a double from Paul George and a strike from Tony Watt gave the visitors a well deserved 4-2 win. In the only other game in October Patrik Twardzik netted a hat-trick in the 5-1 win away to Kilmarnock.

NOVEMBER

A double from Omar Bogle helped towards a 4-2 win over Aberdeen at Barrowfield was followed by a sound but less spectacular 2-1 win over Manchester City at home and a 5-0 win over Kilmarnock in the SFA Youth Cup. Following a hard fought 2-1 win away to St Johnstone the team slumped to back-to-back defeats, 5-1 away to Barcelona and 2-1 at home to Hearts after taking the lead.

DECEMBER & JANUARY

A quiet time for the players with a 3-0 win over Marseilles followed by a 5-0 Youth Cup win over Dunfermline before a long festive break. Tony Watt and John Herron first footed St Mirren in a 2-1 away win on January 24.

FEBRUARY

After some frustrating postponements a surprise hat-trick from Curtis Joes earns a 6-1 win at home to Inverness CT before a 4-1 win at Aberdeen books a place in the last four of the Youth Cup. Two tight SPL matches are exercises in patience but late goals from Tony Watt and Filip Twardzik earn full points against Dundee United and St Mirren.

MARCH

The bhoys return to the goal trial with a 5-0 win away to Inverness, a 4-0 win at home to Kilmarnock then beat Motherwell 5-2 including a four goal haul from Watt in the first half, three of them headers. A 4-0 win away to Dunfermline edges Celtic in front of Hearts before the Edinburgh derby.
