Shaun Maloney Celtic newsShaun Maloney notched his third goal of the season yesterday as Wigan took a great leap towards Premiership safety with a 4-0 hammering of Newcastle United at the DW Stadium.

The former Celt was instrumental in the win as Roberto Martinez’s side raced into a 4-0 half-time lead with Maloney scoring the third goal after being sent through 1-on-1 with Tim Krul.

On the back of wins over Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and now Newcastle Wigan’s hopes of staying up are in their own hands with Blackburn and Wolves to be played in the remaining two matches.

“The team are in a great run of form this month, everyone can be very pleased with their form,” Martinez said after the match.

“I’m extremely pleased because what we’ve shown today is a real clinical touch that we have lacked in the past. I thought the 4-0 lead was fully deserved at half-time and there is a real satisfaction that we saw it through.

“It was huge win today and we have two more huge games against Blackburn and Wolves. This result is fantastic for the fans but if we don’t achieve our aim of staying in this league then it is going to mean nothing.”

The defeat leaves Newcastle in fourth place in the Premiership but that will only secure a Champions League spot if Bayern Munich beat Chelsea in this season’s final.

If Chelsea beat Bayern they will qualify for next season’s competition leaving the fourth placed side in the Premiership to take part in the Europa League.

Maloney’s other Premiership goals this season were against Liverpool and Manchester United.

Good to see Newcastle getting cut down to size, i know that alot of the toon fans have an affinity for the Hoops, but i can’t stand that tosser NUMAD that ‘writes’ for some Newcastle blog, he is obviously the poster boy for the ‘thick Geordie’ who’s only career is to join the army to be shot at by goat herders!

He’s a cretin. Like i said, he may be in the minority, and i had a good time for the Toon until i read some of his shoite regarding Fraser Forster and his sly jibes at the club. And i took a dislike to them from then on, it was only one man writing this stuff, and not the general Newcastle fans who, from what i hear have a good time for the Hoops.

But it’s a lesson worth remembering, One man and his blog, turned me against 50,000 + toon supporters with his negative comments……..

the power of the blog…….in the wrong hands!

Hail Hail, away to the pub to party with my Hector bowler hat.

Have a good one Bhoys and Girls.

Be careful, the Hun is out for blood.

Good points well made Shooglenifty. NUMAD has even toned (tooned?) down his inflammatory comments about Celtic – bog trotters was one description of Celtic fans- but he’s still objectionable.(His views may be coloured by the ‘fact’ his uncle was in the Paras and present at Bloody Sunday and the ‘bog trotters got what they deserved’.)

He claims that FF is playing for a diddy team in diddy games and the big yin is wasting his career at Parkhead. At best FF would be getting a numb bum warning the bench rather than winning trophies. And hoe successful have the Geordies been? The haven’t won a domestic trophy since 1955 and their last silverware was the Inter Cities Fairs Cup as long ago as 1969; you would need to be in your late 50s to recall either of those events.

NUMAD also claimns he ‘told us that FF would not sign a permanent deal for Celtic’ and that a transfer to another Prenier League club is imminent. Let’s tell NUMAD to GIRUY if the ‘keeper stays with us.

    +1 Shooglenifty
Always had time for the Toon supporters but that blogger on NUMAD is a low life cretin who makes a fool of Newcastle and it’s fine supporters.
