John Herron Celtic newsScotland’s u-20 side, featuring six Celtic players in the starting XI, drew 0-0 with Manchester City last night in the opening match of the ADO Den Haag youth tournament.

Mikey Miller and Joe Chalmers played in the full back positions with Marcus Fraser at sweeper behind Lewis Kidd, John Herron and Callum McGregor in midfield.

With Cruzeiro beating the hosts 1-0 in the other group A match Scotland need to beat the Dutch side in today’s noon kick-off to retain a realistic chance of progressing to tomorrow’s semi-finals with a clash against the Brazilians of Cruzeiro coming at 5pm.

Each game lasts as hour with Scotland starting brightly against the Premiership side but unable to make the breakthrough.

Lewis Kidd was replaced at half-time by Barcelona target Islam Feruz with Jamie Lindsay coming on for Callum McGregor midway through the second half but neither side was able to break the deadlock.

Tony Watt was an unused substitute but seems certain to start against Den Haag with Scotland needing goals to take into the final group match against Cruzeiro.

With eight players in the squad Celtic’s status as Scotland’s top club in terns of developing talent has been reinforced with only goalkeeper Robbie Thomson missing from the regular Celtic u-19 squad.

Jackson Irvine did play for Scotland at u-19 level earlier in the season but the Melbourne born midfielder has decided that he wishes to represent Australia if given the chance at international level.

Scotland U20s: Jordan Archer (Spurs), Michael Miller, Joe Chalmers, Murray Wallace (Falkirk), Jason Naismith (St Mirren) , Marcus Fraser, John Herron, Lewis Kidd (Islam Feruz 30), Steven May (St Johnstone), Jason Holt (Hearts), Callum McGregor (Jamie Lindsay 44).

Subs not used: Jack Hamilton (Hearts) , Stephen Hendrie (Hamilton), Stuart Findlay, Alexander Bell (Mechelen), Anthony Watt.
