Mark Millar Dundee United newsFormer Celt Mark Millar will join Dundee United at the end of the month when his Falkirk deal expires.

Millar left Celtic two years ago for the First Division side and played an outstanding role in Falkirk’s run to the semi-final of the League Cup where they lost to Celtic at Hampden.

That run included wins over Rangers and Dundee United with Tannadice boss Peter Houston delighted to take the midfielder to Tayside.

Despite his slight appearance Millar is strong in the tackle and a great passer of the ball. Last season he made 41 appearances for Falkirk, scoring seven times including the last minute free kick that knocked Rangers out of the League Cup.

He said: “In my opinion we have now captured the two best players in Division One with Mark Millar and Michael Gardyne. Mark has shown the right attitude and mentality in leaving Celtic to go down a division in order to kick-start his career.

“That decision has been vindicated for him in now signing this pre-contract agreement which will enable him to showcase his talent at SPL and European level.

“He is a different style of player to those we have here already and the way he plays the game will make him a fans’ favourite here at Tannadice once he arrives.”

Millar was part of Celtic 2006 double winning youth side which included Darren O’Dea, Simon Ferry, Paul Caddis, Scott Cuthbert and Michael McGlinchey who have all gone on to play at a decent level.

During his time at Celtic he linked up with Willie McStay at Ujpest Dozsa during the 2009/10 season.

First team opportunities were few and far between although he did enjoy a second half appearance in a friendly against Manchester City in August 2008.
