SPL silent on Dundee decision

SPL Celtic newsThe SPL have refused to explain to Dunfermline why they decided to promote Dundee.

Neil Doncaster announced on Monday that Dundee had been promoted based on sporting merit but didn’t give any reasoning for the decision.

Relegated Dunfermline feel that they have as strong a case for a place in the SPL as Dundee who finished second in the First Division.

The SPL don’t have any rules on which to make a judgement with John Yorkson wanting to know why his side was overlooked.

“We contacted the SPL to ask what the sporting merit was that they decided upon to put Dundee into the Premier League,” the Dunfermline chairman stated. “We’re still waiting on a response. I find it very strange, probably they don’t have an answer to give us.

“We were originally told we would be told in two weeks which is once the competitive games have started. Obviously it makes it very difficult when we’re working out what we’re going to do.

“We have to speak to our legal folk and see what they make of this latest development. We’ve been kept out of the SPL and we haven’t been told why.”

The First Division will provide the Pars with eight Fife derbies and no trips to the highlands with Ross County and Inverness Caley Thistle both in the SPL.

Jim Jefferies has build a squad for the First Division with Yorkson wanting clarity rather than an SPL place.

“We are now resigned to playing in the SFL,” he added. “Any challenge that we do would be against the decision for us not to play in the SPL now.

“We’re not going to be the club that holds everybody up by appealing and delaying the start of the leagues.”

Surely, Dunfermline’s best argument for being allowed to stay in the SPL is that they were relegated from a league in which one of the teams was cheating: one of the teams didn’t pay any tax so it could use players it couldn’t have afforded to pay for otherwise.

Maybe we’ll see a lot of this type of argument, stretching back for about 20 years, soon.

To be honest it does stink a bit, however I’m just glad Dunfermline are out of the league, they offer absolutely nothing!

Glad the Dens are up, hopefully there will be a couple of decent Dundee Derbies this season.

Now if we could get rid of Inverness and get a strong Partick Thistle I’d be happy.

Sporting merit eh?! Is it not more to do with the fact that next season there will be 4 Dundee derbies, with the possibility that they will all be sold out?! Dundee FC after all have the 5th/6th largest support in the country(as long as they play in the SPL).

    HH!!

I too am glad that Dundee were promoted.

However to my mind from a legal perspective as soon as it was announced that RFC(IA) had not been paying any taxes this season the Pars should have lodged a formal complaint with the SFA and played their remaining games of the season under protest until a decision was made. There is little doubt that would have gone all the way to CAS & the Pars would more than likely have been playing in the SPL this coming season. More fool them for not doing it!!!

Anyway a hearty welcome to the Dee’s who have been away from the SPL for way too long and are truly one of THE big clubs in Scotland with a large and vocal travelling support.
