Ally McCoist newsCarlos Bocanegra has quit Sevco for Spanish Second Division side Racing Santander.

With Ally McCoist pleading for Charles Green to bring in new players ahead of a 12 month transfer embargo the last thing that he needed was to lose his captain.

Bocanegra joins Dorin Goian, Kirk Broadfoot and Maurice Edu who have all quit Sevco in the last seven days.

Despite the investment of 35,000 season tickets and Green’s claims to have three billionaires ready to invest in the club McCoist’s first team squad has been further reduced since being given SFA membership.

Like Goian’s move to Serie B side Spazia Bocanegra’s deal is likely to be reported as a loan.

With Sevco short on players and about to enter a transfer ban sending players out on loan can only suggest that a major cost cutting exercise is underway.

The departures of Bocanegra, Goian, Broadfoot and Edu should trim the wage bill by around £60,000 a week.

Only Lee McCulloch and Lee Wallace remain from last season’s regular first team squad alongwith second choice goalkeeper Neil Alexander.

The terms of Sevco’s transfer embargo means that the club won’t be able to bring in players on loan or sign any free agents.

Since gaining SFA membership McCoist has been able to sign Ian Black, Francisco Sandaza, Kevin Kyle and Dean Shiels but has lost Allan McGregor, Steven Whittaker, Steven Naismith, Kyle Lafferty, Juan Ortiz , Alejandro Bedoya, Steve Davis and a number of younger players such as John Fleck and Rhys McCabe who refused to have their registration transferred over to Sevco.
