Tony Watt’s 20 minute appearance against Hellsingborg was the icing on Celtic’s Champions League cake.
The 18-year-old showed no sign of nerves as he slotted in alongside Gary Hooper showing an assured touch and great awareness for the positioning of his team-mates.
Two years ago school-leaver Watt was breaking into Airdrie’s first team but with four Celtic first team goals to his name he can look forward to appearing on the greatest stage that the game has to offer- the Champions League.
Looking ahead to the switch from Champions League fan to player he admitted: “It’s everyone’s dream to play in the Champions League,.Every game is memorable in this competition and I’ll take anyone in the draw.
“It was unbelievable to be involved. Playing at Parkhead in front of all the fans in a Champions League was very special.
“The atmosphere was great and you can’t ask for more than getting through to the group stages in the Champions League.
“Everyone went into the match with a clear head as if the game was 0-0, nobody thought that we had won through the attitude was superb. We went out to get the job done.”
Before he gets to sample the Champions League Watt will be on international duty for Scotland’s u-21 side with Billy Stark delighted by his progress.
He said: “Tony sticks out because he’s got that power and aggressive running.
“I wouldn’t have any hesitation in getting him in there. His form definitely compensates for the loss of Jordan (Rhodes).
“He’s shown real raw ability. I was glad we got the chance to bring him in for the last friendly and get him on the pitch.
“Since then he’s had his first start for Celtic, took his goals really well and is a contender for us now.”

As long as you aren’t referring to Charles Green and Craig Whyte I would agree with that, 🙂
When was the last time a Scottish team won four European matches in succession?
For the predecessor club to Sevco FC how far back would you have to go to find four victories? I think I read somewhere that they had won one in thirty so maybe 4 in 50?
I’m sure our illustrious Scottish media will let us all know in due course.
I feel a new signing or two coming.
