referee Celtic newsSteve Lomas has been hit with an eight match touchline ban after being ordered from the dug-out against Celtic.

The St Johnstone boss was angered by Tony Watt re-appearing on the pitch after treatment for an injury with Celtic forcing a corner with Watt back in action.

Iain Brines went over to speak to Lomas and sent the Saints boss to the stand with his hearing heard by the SFA today.

After the incident Lomas said: “Watt was receiving treatment and the rule is he can’t enter the field of play in an advantageous position – but he did.

“He was running down our wing unopposed putting a cross into the box. I’ve been in to see Iain discussing the technical side of refereeing but their player ran on to a pass from off the pitch.

“I don’t want to talk about what I said to be sent off. I apologised for my language to Iain but it’s a highly emotional game and I’d have been very unhappy if it had resulted in a goal.”

Lomas took over as St Johnstone manager on November 3 last year and had a two match suspension hanging over him from last season.

Following today’s disciplinary hearing an SFA statement said: “Six-match suspension imposed with immediate effect and a further imposition of an outstanding two-match suspended suspension from previous misconduct.”

Stuart Dougal and Kenny Clark have yet to comment on the incident and it’s unclear whether or not the there will be a call for strike action from Scotland’s referees.
