Tommy McIntyre Celtic newsCeltic’s youngest side kicked off a double header of action with a 3-1 win away to Clyde last night in the Glasgow Cup.

Tommy McIntyre’s side will enjoy a quick breather today then gear up to face Partick Thistle tomorrow night at Lennoxtown.

A double from Luke Donnelly either side of a goal from Glen Eadie gave Celtic full points on the astroturf at Broadwood last night in the round robin event.

“We got used to the conditions in the first half and after the break we really upped the game,” McIntyre explained.

“The full-backs got forward and we started to play with a bit more freedom. We could have scored a lot more but I’m pleased that we created so many chances, we just need to be a bit more ruthless.

“It’ll be tough for other teams going to Broadwood, Clyde are disciplined and well organised but we should have converted a few more of the chances we created.

“Clyde worked really hard, we had to be patient, keep the ball moving quickly and the tempo up. I felt we dominated the second half.

“Breaking down teams is part of being a Celtic player. Playing in heavy rain on a plastic pitch is character building, everything isn’t five star and they’ll have to deal with those conditions in their career.”

McIntyre added: “We’ve taken on two games in three days but the players are used to that.

“They put in an exceptional performance against Motherwell on Friday night, they are full time and it’s upto the coaches to prepare them for Partick Thistle on Thursday. It’s good to have a game so quickly to get some momentum going.”
