Why Efe?

Efe Ambrose celebratesAmid all the mock outrage over the events at Dens Park on Wednesday night one incident appears to have been overlooked.

Neither ESPN, Steven Craigen or the SFA have felt it worth commenting on.

Why was Efe Ambrose constantly booed by Dundee fans?

From his first touch in the match, in front of the enclosure known as The Derry filled home fans, the Nigerian internationalist was jeered and booed at every opportunity.

Why would that be? Was it because of his confrontational four minute substitute performance against the Dark Blues in September? Or was it the aggressive way that he celebrated his first ever Celtic goal a month later at St Mirren?

Or could there be another reason why a Nigerian Celtic player was jeered on Boxing Day at a football ground he had never previously set foot on in his career.

The footballing authorities are of course keen supporters of every anti discrimination policy invented, following the instructions, issuing the mission statement and arranging the photo calls and media conferences to declare their whole hearted backing.

With outrage pouring out at every opportunity over four arrests surely the entire security issue requires investigating.

In his blow by blow report on the trouble Dundee’s Security Chief Jim Thomson revealed: “There were so many drunk people outside that we just had to let them in. If we didn’t, there would have been a riot outside. It’s as simple as that.

“It was like a continental-style policing operation. In other words, they were in that stand so keep them there and if they want to fight among themselves then let them go ahead.”

But will anyone at Dundee or elsewhere explain the abuse of Efe Ambrose?

What ab absurd excuse from Dundee….Drunk fans outside the stadium so let them in to cause problems with fans who are sober !!

Hope the SPL throw the book at them for this disgraceful display of crowd control…or non-control.

Surely the 4th official will have reported the racial abuse aimed directly at Ambrose, even Kenny McAskill could have heard it clearly…yet somehow has failed to be reported by the media.

Regards Wilson / Baird incident, as the highly rated Mr. Brines was some 5-10 yards with an unobstructed view and indeed the stand side assistant would also be looking across the park yet neither thought it worthy of any action. Why has the compliance officer deemed to take action.
Brines MUST have seen it and they should only take action on unseen incidents.

    • Steveo says:

Naw Brines never saw it at all – he was watchin the ball which was out towards the near touchline and the wilson baird altercation took place behind him. Doubtful if either of linos wud hav seen it as their remit is the second last defender (offside) and the touchline. If they happen to see anything else they’ll bring it to the refs attention for action to be taken.

Let allow lots of extremely drunk people in with families and young children, rather than turn them away, brilliant idea.
The drunks are first to blame for getting into that state, but the stewards and Police should never have let them into the ground.

Why are we surprised that this group of Dundee supporters aiming abuse at a Celtic player?.a big thing was made this week about NL returning as manager to where he made his debut for Celtic, but his first touch of a ball in Scottish football was greeted with a tirade of abuse from these same Dundee supporters! and the treatment of NL from then on was set by the Dens Park blueprint, this gives the lie to keevins,s “West of Scotland” bigotry.

I have only just returned to Scotland having spent Christmas away. I saw Celtic’s goals on YouTube. I was ecstatic with the way both goals were taken by two players at the top of their game. A team playing with confidence and skill. Celtic are truly a joy to watch right now.

However, nobody seems to be talking about the football. That would be too easy. After all, the SPL is awash with that those kind of goals and entertaining football. The media are bored with it, so far more profitable for their pay-masters if the headlines are negative. (Oh, I forgot to add, negative for 1 club) If Dundee scored two we’d be concentrating on football again.

  • Jack says:

the problem with this arguement. Becuase I was listening as I noticed the abuse aimed at Ambrose is that Wanyama did not get the same treatment

    • wonky says:

Exactly Jack. The racism allegations don’t seem to stand up to scrutiny. What is depressing is how low my fellow Celtic fans are prepared to go to support or excuse the behaviour of a small group of total morons. There are problem elements in every fanbase and the duty of the decent supporters is to root them out; certainly not defend them when they shame the good name of the club and the reputation of the wider support.
Some Celtic fans will tolerate no criticism of their fellow fans no matter the circumstances- this article amongst some of the other desperate garbage being peddled by some fans is reminiscent of the Sevconian deflect, deny and whataboutery tactics…we Celtic fans should be more mature than that, and our standards considerably higher than that lot.

  • paul McCann says:

the reason efe was abused is that he was the nearest to the foul mouthed people and as for the 5 people reported to the procurator fiscal they will point to the newspaper headlines and say that any case is predujicaed and it cannot be a fair trial

  • The Tax Man says:

More laptop loyal whitewash. Baaaa baaaa

  • Shamrock hoops says:

Sectarian singing at Hampden today, famine song & billy boys being sung by scotlands shame, after the media lambasting the Celtic support after dens park I expect the same to be applied to the zombies!!

  • I would. not hold my breath Not in Scotland
