Lennon braced for deadline day madness

|

Football transfer newsNeil Lennon will take a calm approach to the madness of transfer deadline day.

The hoops boss moved early during the transfer window to sign up Tom Rogic with Rami Gershon arriving on loan from Standard Liege.

Lennon has mentioned bringing in someone left-sided but the main issue will be whether or not an acceptable bid comes in for Gary Hooper.

It’s highly unlikely that Hooper would be sold without another striker coming in with Lennon braced for a frantic day of rumours and wheeler-dealing.

“We’re toying with it (bringing players in) players will be thrown at you, it does get pretty busy,” the Celtic boss admitted after the 4-1 win over Kilmarnock. “You have to digest it, you have to make a decision, is it good for us? Is it the right position?

“We’ll see what tomorrow brings but at the minute we haven’t done anything on that front.”

Celtic turned down a third bid from Norwich for Hooper with speculation about the striker bound to intensify throughout the day.

Lennon added: “There was a third bid from Norwich that was rejected, again it was well short of what we value Gary at. If people want to make a bid fine, they’ll have to come forward with the money then we’ll see where it takes us.

“You can never guarantee it but I’m hoping he is here on Friday. A lot of things happen on the last day, it’s pretty frantic. Agents ring you, clubs ring you but the only concrete offer that we’ve had is for Gary from Norwich.

“He’s a fantastic all round centre forward, the next time we’re here we’re playing Juventus and I think that really appeals to him as does going forward in the Championship.”

Would need to be a really top deal to tempt both club / player to do a deal prior to appointment of a new agent. Think Norwich are simply trying to appease fans with bids they know will be rejected. Pity they don’t have anyone worth our interest or we could do likewise.

Instead of thinking about bringing in someone at the last minute, I’d prefer to concentrate on promoting from within. We have many talented young players on the books bursting for the chance to show what they can do, even for 2-3 games to give them an idea of what is required.
