Lennon slates players and drops transfer hint

|

Neil Lennon newsNeil Lennon has publicly slated his players for the League Cup semi-final defeat from St Mirren and hinted that he may now move into the transfer market.

For the third time running Celtic lost at Hampden with the hoops boss scathing on his side’s display.

While stopping short of the criticisms he made after losing to Ross County at the same venue three years ago Lennon was in no mood to spare any of the egos in his dressing room.

“It was soulless, it lacked intensity, it lacked desire and it lacked will to win,” the Celtic boss stated. “All the attributes this team has shown in the last six to nine months. I don’t know where this performance came from.

“We did not start well, so we changed it after 10-15 minutes and looked better. We hit the bar twice, but that happens. We scored a good goal. We looked a lot more like ourselves when we came out in the second half.”

Hampden is becoming a venue to dread for Celtic fans with Lennon struggling to come to terms with the latest disappointment.

“It seems to be a bogey ground but this is the worst we have played. I could take losing to Kilmarnock in the final and in the semi-final [to Hearts] last year, because the performances were decent.

“But that was awful today, from what I perceive to be top-class players. Maybe I need to look at this week in the window, and change things.”

The transfer window closes on Thursday with only Tom Rogic and loan signing Rami Gershon so far arriving at the club with neither player in yesterday’s squad.

There is likely to be frenzied speculation over the future’s of Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama with both players on the wanted list of a number of Premiership clubs.

    We don’t have “bogey grounds”.

It was at hampden not parkhead mate. The article is about us playing shite at hampden.

  • brido1958 says:

Yep blame the players again Lenny, about time you started to look in as your record as manager in domestic cup competitions is woefull

  • Martybhoy says:

I hope there a few others shown the door after that pathetic performance yesterday.

  • Marko says:

If these players can’t handle domestic matches in our national stadium, then maybe we should be looking to bring in the players that can. Losing is one thing, but to lose in the manner we did was embarrassing.

  • Greenjedi says:

Effort, determination, desire and professional pride.

All attributes it seems our players don’t have unless they’re playing a foreign team

  • hancock says:

absolute piss poor performance … i could go on but i’ll just get angrier =(

  • alan says:

We looked like a bunch of individuals going through the motions on the way to an assumed certain victory.I would say that if as reported NL was in Turin watching Juve on Saturday night then he did not give the St Mirren game the respect it deserved and sends the wrong message.

He should hve been 100% on this one and blame the management for the lack of preparation and failure to motivate. No one got pass marks and Lassad for me is starting with a man short.

Neil Lennon is quite possibly the worst manager in Celtic history. Great guy – fan favorite – died in the tweed green – but the worst manager in Celtic history. People point out Barnes/Dalgleish and Lou Mc Cashncarry but the truth was that those geezers were never given as much time/money/rope as Lennon. Lennon has handed more famous victories to St Mirren, Ross County, Hamilton, ICT etc etc etc than ANY Celtic manager. This being said he seems to read the game completely different than we do and his teams lack any bite up front and completely disorganized at the back. In the middle they play across the field rather than penetrating. The teams have looked out of shape and lethargic for long periods and evey win comes after a great deal of huffing and puffing. I have watched Hooper for the entire time he has been here and am not convinced but the question arises as to who can actually score. Both Hooper and Stokes have first touches that would make them laughing stocks in any other league. Kelvin Wilson is never a Celtic player and if Glasgow Celtic can’t find a better second keeper than I-always-let-in-the-first-shot Zaluscka then there is really someting wrong. To sum this diatribe up it is obvious that Lennon himself does not hold the SPL in high regard and thus does not prepare himself or his teams adequately on the training pitch and off tghe training pitch. Our record on free kicks, penalty kicks and corner kicks provides enough evidence of this. Please call a taxi for Lenny.

Celtic have lost out on too many cups in recent years for this to put down as a bad day, Inverness twice, St.Mirren twice, Clyde, Hearts & Kilmarnock. Arbroath getting a draw at Parkhead?

I understand we have no divine right to win games, every dog has to have their day, it just seems like Celtic are quite happy to let these ‘dogs’ have their day against us. The penalty situation at Celtic has to be addressed, taker changes far too often & Lenny called oy right when said Mulgrew should have put his laces through it.

St.Mirren deserved it yesterday,no doubt about it. I’m not one to turn on the club or manager but I think we as a support deserve better, these players are not delivering,( don’t mention the champions league ffs)5 times we have failed at Hampden under Neil Lennon? That is an awful statistic! I’m going to say it folks & I am so disappointed that I have to, Neil Lennon is NOT the man to take us forward & be a top side! Go at the end of the season Neil!HH so disappointed today:-(

A shocking performance yesterday not the first one under lennon either, I`m fed up with this manager he is not good enough for the this fine club. He is living off the barca games, but the stlye of play he presides over is not the celtic of old, the players can`t pass the ball can`t control the ball they panic at the back, I think alot of it is down to the manager he has`nt got clue. Mcgown was great yesterday he could control the ball pass and tackle, yet lenny chucked him out

  • Mikey bhoy says:

Geez peace! We lost to a poor performace yesterday and I know we’ve had shockers in the past at hampden but calling for Lennon to go is madness.

Who would replace him? We SHOULD be winning every game home and away but that just isn’t going happen. Teams are proving if you have a go at Celtic rather than just defend and hope for a draw that they’ll actually have a chance to winning.

No one got pass marks from the team yesterday but if we start getting rid of them all then where do we go? Usual from some idiots to over react at a bad performance. If you’re so upset then don’t bother watching especially if your only going to criticise

  • Larry says:

There a couple of posts from bampots and/or orcs here. Our league cup record has been terrible for forty-odd years. When the time comes, I think I’ll examine NFL’s management based on championships and his record in Europe, not in the same Mickey Mouse cup that has thwarted better men than any of us.

    • larry
100% spot on ! I’m absolutely gutted with the result yesterday , but it has been happening for 40 odd years ! I am happy with Neil Lennon as Manager, forever how long that may be!?

    • Monti says:

I agree with your overall view point there,my main concern is Celtic’s ability to pick & choose what tournaments we turn up for. Imagine the zombies were still with us & things were tight in the league, the league cup is a trophy there to be won, what would you have given for a league cup win during the barren years of the early nineties? Remember bam pots love Celtic too, same as the guys who can’t afford to go to games!HAIL HAIL!

  • sands1888 says:

No real celtic fans, either part timers or huns, fuck them, lennon is the man to take us forward, its the players that let him down, no coincidence only a rew days of window left, snide cunts scared of injury

    SHARE THE TRUTH GUYS

    From TSFM:

Under courtroom conditions (FTTT) the MIH/Rangers FC QC, Mr Thornhill, conceded that, where a side letter existed, the remuneration trust benefit to footballers was contractual.

As Rangers did not lodge any side letters with the SPL the complete Contract of Service was not submitted for players who had been given that additional benefit. Therefore, players who are found to have been issued with side letters must logically be found to have not been eligible to play in official matches.

Rangers understood that the EBT benefit was contractual with the issue of a side letter.
Rangers understood that all Contracts of Service must be lodged with the SPL.
Rangers understood that they were playing with improperly registered players.

Though the commission are not in any real position to punish the club – as they are now deceased – they must, at the very least, correct the result of each match where an ineligible player participated.

    This is really, really simple.

  • Williebhoy says:

I’ve never regarded winning either domestic cup as a sign of success, for me it’s the league title or a bad season.

We SHOULD be using such competitions to give the younger players match experience, said it for years yet still we see the same players go through the motions like a low key training game.
Lack of interest / motivation has been apparent for some time. Players need to know they have a battle on their hands for a starting jersey.

Others have been given umpteen chances and failed to convince, so why continue to give them yet more.

Striker than don’t score goals won’t win us many matches over a full season. Any Celtic striker worthy of the name SHOULD be hitting a minimum of 20 goals per season – no excuses.

Penalties, remember the young guns fighting over a pen at Tynecastle…missed it though 🙂

Tommy Gemmell showed how to hit a penalty..didn’t miss many.

Correct league is the only one that matters and for the zombies on here a don’t mean a part time 3rd div league . HH GBNL

Mulgrew looked like a defender we got on a free from Aberdeen.

  • mark says:

BBad day again at hampden Wilson shite, lassad shite izzy shite the rest just an off day am sure we will live through this. The anti-lennon brigade your a disgrace HH

    • sands1888 says:

Probably fat sally green and traynor, they are terrified of lennon, hes got everyone on the backfoot

  • Chris says:

A lot of anti-lennon rants on this but think about this: who could have commanded the respecy of the dressing room the way lennon does? Who cpuld have organised and swet up as good a scouting system on the budget and time frame lennon, john park et al have? Who could have brought in young, talented players with a view to making a large profit from them the way lennon has? Who would have been prepared to give the clubs youth players a chance and run in the 1st team like lennon has? And of course who could have navigated such a difficult champs league group like lennon did? Not very many managers, other than those beyond celtics reach, could havw done any of these and been successful so i think all the anti-lennon ramblers want to give it a rest, every team has bad performances (even the mighty barcelona lose, as if we need reminding) but i am confident that lennon, mjallby and the backroom guys will sort the players out and spell it out to them so give yerself peace

    • mark says:

Mate guys with Celtic in there hearts know the score with lennon and we back him no matter what we know how good a young manager we’ve got the zombies on the other hand well they come on here and try and tell you different HH

  • Mick67 says:

This was a very strong Celtic team that NL started with plus NL had stated how important this game was.

For me the players where very poor not enough desire which from a Celtic point of view is not good enough.

But hey at least we don’t cheat, scam and hide when it comes to paying our tax.
