Lennon slates players and drops transfer hint

|

Neil Lennon newsNeil Lennon has publicly slated his players for the League Cup semi-final defeat from St Mirren and hinted that he may now move into the transfer market.

For the third time running Celtic lost at Hampden with the hoops boss scathing on his side’s display.

While stopping short of the criticisms he made after losing to Ross County at the same venue three years ago Lennon was in no mood to spare any of the egos in his dressing room.

“It was soulless, it lacked intensity, it lacked desire and it lacked will to win,” the Celtic boss stated. “All the attributes this team has shown in the last six to nine months. I don’t know where this performance came from.

“We did not start well, so we changed it after 10-15 minutes and looked better. We hit the bar twice, but that happens. We scored a good goal. We looked a lot more like ourselves when we came out in the second half.”

Hampden is becoming a venue to dread for Celtic fans with Lennon struggling to come to terms with the latest disappointment.

“It seems to be a bogey ground but this is the worst we have played. I could take losing to Kilmarnock in the final and in the semi-final [to Hearts] last year, because the performances were decent.

“But that was awful today, from what I perceive to be top-class players. Maybe I need to look at this week in the window, and change things.”

The transfer window closes on Thursday with only Tom Rogic and loan signing Rami Gershon so far arriving at the club with neither player in yesterday’s squad.

There is likely to be frenzied speculation over the future’s of Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama with both players on the wanted list of a number of Premiership clubs.

Mark & Sands, lads if you knew me you wouldn’t say the things you have said today,Celtic are my life & always have been,it is about winning the league & going as far in Europe as we can, that’s the priority. However seeing the Celtic captain go up the stairs at Hampden as a winner is a fucking major buzz! My point is it’s not good enough to be getting knocked out of cups & losing finals to lower league teams & mediocre Spl clubs, I don’t give two fucks who the manager is,this recent cup record isn’t good enough,it’s all about results & in the domestic cup competitions Lennon isn’t getting results. There isn’t any creativity in the team,no real winners, who was pushing or bullying the team when things were going wrong? Like an Aitken or McCarthy or a Lennon? Celtic are soft & bottle it time & again. HAIL HAIL!

    • mark says:

No bottle ffs we had bottle to claw back a 15pt deficit last year ,we had bottle to beat Moscow twice and we took 3 goals off barca and beat them in paradise so the bottle seems ok to me only a zombie would go on about no bottle next you’ll be telling me am paranoid eh ….HH FUCK THE ZOMBIES

  • Monti says:

Mark I’m Celtic to the core mate,do you like getting knocked out of cups? I want to win every game we play, when we don’t it bothers me.

    • Chris says:

The players and manager want to win eveey game aswell, goes without saying, but we cant and dont win every game; the best thing that can be done is that the manager picks the players up (ironically by booting their arses after sunday) and gets them organised and up for the next game while realising what went wrong in the game and correcting it. Football is a learning curve and no club, even barca, can win every game

      • Stuartybhoy says:

How true Chris some fans have to a had look at the words of the Celtic song. St Mirren deserved the result yesterday we cant win everything bhoys

      • Monti says:

Not arguing with any of that mate, however we Celtic should not be getting knocked out of major semi finals by the likes of St.mirren!! yet we do,regularly. NL has enjoyed my total backing as player & manager, that will continue, however Celtic are much, much bigger than any individual & if there is someone out there who can stop us being humiliated in the cups & take care of these lesser sides in a professional manner, by that i mean knocking them out, then go & get him. IF THIS WAS STRACHAN OR MOWBRAY WITH THIS RECORD,THEY WOULD BE FUCKING HOUNDED FACT, I LOVE NL BUT I LOVE CELTIC MORE! PISSED OFF HAIL HAIL!

        • Chris says:

Records speak for themselves and nobody can argue that lennons record in cups isnt the best to say the least, however, i dont think we can be arrogant about going into games against ‘lesser’ opposition in cup or league games and expect to beat the likes of st mirren, anybody can beat anybody in cup games and whenever another team in scotland play celtic they up the ante and make us really work for a result, always been that way.

Fatigue, complacency and other things might have affected the players but the only thing that can be done is lennon and the guys to speak to the players, deal with what went wrong on the pitch and go on from there but i dont anybody will want our recent record in cups to improve more than lennon and im surehel b working on it seriously

        • Monti says:

Chris it’s not arrogant to expect to beat lesser teams, they are lesser teams on every way,it’s all about attitude & application, both of which St.Mirren applied better than Celtic! That is what I’m questioning.

    • mark says:

On the last day of the season when Scott brown lifts the league trophy and its the only thing he lifts this season i will be a happy bhoy. League title and last 16 in champions league ( maybe more ) every year will do me. HH

  • Lennon played the wrong team on Sunday Soory to say he has to take the blame for the bad overal team

  • Monti says:

Song- So this is what it means to be SevCo,this is what it means to be small, this is what it means, when your teams never won fuck all!

  • williebhoy says:

I certainly don’t think ANYONE at Celtic should be beyond criticism no matter what they might have done in recent times. No greater Celt than Billy McNeill, but he still got flak from fans & the sack when things went wrong on the park.

Lennon must accept his share of blame for the shambolic performances in recent Hampdump visits,
all well & good pulling back a 15 point deficit….I’d be questioning WHY we were 15 points behind in the first place. Calling the players soulless isn’t scathing IMHO they were GUTLESS. Not for the first time beaten by a side with greater desire, willingness to work harder. Tactics were poor, subs were baffling…mistakes made ON & OFF the park cost us.

Nothing new though we have seen it all before Artmedia, Clyde, Black Sunday and Lennon should need no reminder he was involved in all these games as well – Soulless / Gutless displays. Sure we will always lose games at some point, but go down fighting, show spirit, determination sadly missing AGAIN.

Lessons should have been learned, clearly they don’t sink in. No-one is bigger than this club, NO-ONE is irreplaceable, too many want the glory but not willing to put in the effort in the bread & butter games chasing lost causes. Real top players have standards, week in week out they perform to a high standard irrespective of opposition, crowds etc….we have much to learn.

Some players have let us down too often and should be cast out now and replaced if not by new players then young guns bursting to show what they can offer. Some players think they are better than they really are, well cash them in NOW, sell them at peak prices..No-one at this club that we can’t replace with equal / better.
I know what I’d rather see in Celtic jersey and it’s not another prima donna / poser happy to pick up an easy large wage packet.

  • Monti says:

Celtic at Hampden should have the opposition quaking before they reach the stadium..simples! But they are not, why? Because the current players believe their own hype! The Celtic players need to treat St.Mirren The same as Barca, anything else is unprofessional, that’s how I see these players, unprofessional! Zaluska isn’t upto it ,duck it I can’t be bothered, sick of performances like Sundays!! HH! Someone once said ” show me a good loser & I’ll show you a loser” exactly!!!

    • mark says:

Monti you’ve won me round mate your right Celtic are shite lennon is a fuckin disgrace and should have been sacked after Ross county never mind st mirren the players are ALL shite because a team as MASSIVE as Celtic should NEVER lose a game to anybody get rid of the lot of them there’s still time to build a new team in this window lawwell should start selling the cunts as soon as am raging after Sunday and am not going to turin now av paid but am BOYCOTTING Celtic games from now on am melting my season card won’t be going back till we win every game Celtic play in and that’s it.
