No deal for striker

|

Juan Agudelo newsAmerican Juan Agudelo won’t be joining Celtic today.

The international striker impressed Neil Lennon during a training spell in November but his club Chivas USA have proved difficult to negotiate with.

Agudelo had a brief spell training with West Ham at the start of the month but is resigned to starting the new season in the MLS.

A fee of £1m was proposed by Chivas USA but with just a year remaining on his contract Agudelo is likely to see out his deal before realising his ambition to play in Europe.

Celtic are in no rush to bring in an emerging striker with Gary Hooper, Tony Watt and Anthony Stokes competing for places alongside Lassad, Miku and Georgios Samaras.

During his time in Scotland Agudelo took in the Celtic v Barcelona match with the whole occasion leaving a lasting impression.

“I know the history, it’s basically a religion for many,” he stated.

“Just to have that there and have the support of the whole city would be lovely. Especially due to the fact they are consistently Champions League.

“Being in the group stage of the Champions League is huge. We’ll see what happens, I’d have to consider a lot of things but definitely, Celtic is a great club.”

Celtic are unlikely to be involved in many deadline day deals but Lennon is expecting a busy day of speculation before the transfer deadline closes.

After watching his side beat Kilmarnock 4-1 he said: ““We’re toying with it (bringing players in) players will be thrown at you, it does get pretty busy.

“You have to digest it, you have to make a decision, is it good for us? Is it the right position?

“We’ll see what tomorrow brings but at the minute we haven’t done anything on that front.”

  • Monti says:

Celtic should purchase Gary Mackay Steven & Johnny Russell!

  • Willie says:

Sorry Monti….both reasonable SPL players but surely we could find better alternatives elsewhere if not from within the ranks.

I’d take a fully fit James Keatings to outscore either if back to his best and given the chance.
