No close season for international bhoys

|

Neil Lennon Celtic managerNeil Lennon has a number of dilemmas to resolve as he prepares for the results of Scott Brown’s scan.

Despite being spoiled for choice with midfielders the Celtic boss is at his happiest when Brown has the armband on and leading the side into action.

Surgery seems certain for the former Hibs midfielder with Lennon toying with dates as he decides what course of action is best.

A win over St Mirren on Saturday will keep Celtic’s interest in the Scottish Cup running which could curtail Brown’s break from action.

Celtic face Champions League qualifiers in mid-July with the hoops boss balancing a number of dates around the needs of his main players.

The thing is we could be in a Scottish Cup Final at the end of May,” Lennon explained. “We have to balance it very carefully.

“If there is a chance with three or four league games left then we may give them a week here and there.

“Given all the international matches, time off is very limited and we have to be very mindful of that.

“We will be back around June 17 and that overlaps with internationals.

“Efe Ambrose, Emilio Izaguirre and Victor Wanyama could all be away and the Scots boys are also playing in June.

“It might be strange having a break while the season is ongoing but it might be the only opportunity they get.”

Brown is expected to find out the results of his scan today after visiting a specialist in London.
