SFA won't take action on Berwick singing

|

Stewart Regan news

Despite the embarrassment of having sectarian singing highlighted by ESPN at the weekend it appears that the SFA will take no action against Sevco.

Before the second half started at Berwick’s Shieldfield Park on Saturday Ray Stubbs was forced to issue an apology to viewers about the songs from the visiting support.

Midway through the second half a club statement referred to disappointment at inappropriate chanting while Ally McCoist described the singing as letting the club down a little bit.

He said: “Our fans have been fantastic home and away this season. I came off the park to be told the club have issued a statement. I back the club’s statement 100%.

“If there was some unsavoury chanting, they’ve probably let themselves down – and they’ve let us all down a little bit. I would be very hopeful it’s an isolated incident and we can move on.”

It certainly seems that the SFA are keen to move on with both the Daily Record and The Sun carrying stories this morning that no action will be taken.

Stewart Regan’s regime has been noted for it’s hands-off approach to any contentious issues with his proposed era of openess falling by the wayside like a Scotland World Cup qualifying campaign.

Not a word has came out of the SFA today other than the off the record briefing to the biggest selling newspapers to give an accurate steer on the likely course of inaction.

With no European action likely at Ibrox over the next few seasons the SFA can be assured that no outside football agency will highlight the issue of sectarian singing but the next Third Division fixture shown on ESPN should indicate what lessons, if any, have been learned.

I don’t think anyone should actually be surprised at this. Spineless, completely spineless. Don’t expect Regan et al to start applying the rules now, if they had done it last summer then this wouldn’t have been a problem since no audited accounts should have meant to license given.

These are the scumbags that belted out the racist song about the famine during a Show Racism The Red Card display a few months back, and it wasn’t even commented on in the media or by anyone from the governing bodies. The only group of supporters in the UK to blatantly disgrace the campaign, live on television, yet it goes without a comment.

PS Chuckles, where’s the Cancer Centre at ibrox you promised? You wouldn’t lie about something like that would you?

One of the reasons i don’t miss the knuckle draggers.

  • Monti says:

Need to ask Peter Lawwell to have a word, after all he runs the game! Regan hasn’t even said a fukin word about it! Scum!

Sectarian singing is the very least of the problems they will have heading their way shortly.

Despite all the bluster they clearly have major money problems, then also the not insignificant matter of the Nimmo Smith commission to rule…we won’t hear any sectarian singing above the crying, moaning & gnashing of gums.

  • Brianbhoy says:

    No further action

    No surprise all round.

The word is, ESPN’s outside broadcast crew placed their microphones next to a a handful of adolescent Northumbrian kids and turned up their microphones to high sensitivity.

Well that explains everything. Just an apology to come now from ESPN and it’s

    End of!

It’s a given that the SFA will sit on their hands on this. Thankfully ESPN didn’t shirk their responsibilities and condemned the shame to a global audience.
The sectarian bile from these animals comes as no shock, I am no great lover of Craig Burley’s punditry but the vile abuse that was hurled at him ( and disgustingly to his wife ) just goes to show the depraved rancid minds of the zombie hoardes.
    HAIL HAIL

  • justshatered says:

Why the surprise that no action will be taken.
This is an organisation that charge Celtic over ……… wait for it ……………………. a BANNER.
Yes a banner can cause more offence than a series of offensive songs.
A banner will get you charged but offensive singing does not. When this issue has to be highlighted by a company that pores millions into our sport before any of the local rags mention it tells you all you need to know.
ESPN must be thankful that they managed to get rid of Scottish football today. To pay millions only to have your audience either abused or offended you would think would be a major embarassment to the people running our sport but no. Its business as usual over Hampden way.
I really wonder what would be considered unusual over in that place?

  • Gerry says:

I think lots of posters have the wrong end of the stick here or maybe you’ve not heard that Alex Salmond is so concerned over this behaviour and the inaction that he’s called a summit of football and police authorities.
In other news lord lucan has stolen king billys white stallion and is galloping up & down Bank Street Coatbridge with a traffic cone on his head….!

This infuriates me. We’ve gone from being a society where a mutual respect for each other tempered by a modicum of winding each other up was generally acceptable and classed as inter-club banter. We all knew how to take int and went to work on a Monday ready for the piss-takes. Some Rangers fans were my best friends, and fortunately, some still are. The day I let this sort of shite affect friendships I’ve maintained for 30+ years is the day I’ll have eventually lost it. A few songs, really? So what? And how many were actually watching anyway? Why would you be watching them? Hoping for something like this? That’s just pathetic really. I tend to rarely watch Rangers games unless they are against us or have a direct effect on us. This one certainly didn’t.

And a word to the (not so) wise. We’ve got our own problems, but fortunately the press seem to shy away from them at present because of what’s going on over there. But, believe me, the spotlight can shift very easily.

    • eastside says:

It’s very simple, if you lot don’t want your disgraceful and disturbing behaviour to be highlighted and condemned there’s a simple solution, DON’T DO IT! Not difficult to work out, all the carp about minorities and Chelsea fans, heavy handed police, give us a break, the behaviour on display was shocking even for you lot. Wallowing in crimes against innocent children is the lowest of the low.

      • Windsor Tim says:

Just like a guy named pilot wash your hands (ignore it) I am certain anyone I call a friend would not sing about hating me or those of my ilk

  • peter hughes says:

would be more supprised if they were taking action, doncaster reagan sfa etc are a moral vacumn
