Police Scotland have performed a remarkable u-turn and won’t prevent fans with flags attending Thursday’s St Johnstone v Celtic match.
Over the weekend word came out that flags and banners would be banned from the fixture prompting an outburst of anger from hoops fans.
Yesterday Celtic announced that the ban had been reversed but through numerous media outlets match commander Kevin Lynch was adamant that no flags would be allowed inside the stadium.
After a further meeting today it seems that Police Scotland have seen sense in a gesture of goodwill to all at the festive period.
A statement on the St Johnstone website explains: “Further discussion has today taken place between all parties and a request from the clubs made to Police Scotland that the ban be lifted has been accepted.
“Safety remains of paramount importance to both clubs and the match will be managed with this in mind and with Police Scotland having reviewed this policy, the two clubs are now putting their faith in all supporters that they shall support their respective teams in a manner which befits what should be a great game of football on a special date in the football calendar.
“However, it should be noted that as is the case at every game and in line with Ground Regulations, no flags on canes or sticks will be permitted and any offensive banner or inappropriate behaviour anywhere in the ground will not be tolerated.”
The Saints statement added: “We reiterate Celtic’s sentiments regarding the excellent relationship that exists between the two clubs and we look forward to working together along with other agencies in ensuring an enjoyable spectacle on Boxing Day.”
WTF?!? Is Mr Bean in charge of proceedings here? They’ll probably announce a ban again tomorrow.
Now its down to the fans to make sure that there is no flares or smoke. Because they is waitin!
If any dingbat brings pyros (nearly typed PIRAS there and got the jail!) then they should be made to swallow them whilst lit and shit them out again. Maybe that would get the message across.
Always on the ball, Joe.
I love your line, ” as a gesture of godwill to
all at the festive season. ”
But at Cally, every Celtic fan will be strip-
searched.
FANPOWER has won the day here.

Definitely time for our fans to starve these clubs of revenue. Sick and tired of being treated like catle at these grounds, who depend on us to stay afloat.
Safe journey to and from Perth to all fans of the champions of shortbreadshire.
