Joe Chalmers Celtic newsCeltic defender Joe Chalmers is off to join Falkirk on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old made his first appearance of the season in the 0-0 friendly against Galatasaray and has since played in two matches for the u-20 side.

Chalmers made a couple of top team appearances last season, making his debut at Inverness Caley Thistle but required a hip operation in April which ruled him out of action for the remainder of the year.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Celtic alongside Marcus Fraser, John Herron and Mikey Miller and was a key member of the 2011/12 double winning side that took nine points in the first ever Next Gen Series.

This transfer window has seen a number of the younger Celtic players move out on loan with the Championship a popular destination with Miller joining Dumbarton, Paul George at Hamilton and Stewart Findlay joining Morton on loan.

Celtic’s development side are still in contention for the title, chasing their fifth consecutive title, and travel to face Partick Thistle at Firhill on Tuesday night.

Furtherafield Bahrudin Atajic is on loan at Shrewsbury with Callum McGregor returning to Notts County after a successful spell in the first half of the season.

Jackson Irvine is with Kilmarnock while Tony Watt has made a big impact in Belgium with Lierse.

On the signing front Celtic have reached agreement with Wolves to bring in Leigh Griffiths for a fee believed to be around £800,000.
