Morten Wieghorst Celtic newsMorten Wieghorst has left Swansea City alongside Michael Laudrup.

The strained relationship between the Danish management team and the Welsh club finally came to a head last night when the club announced Laudrup’s departure.

A string of recent events contributed to the parting of the ways less than a year after Swansea won the only trophy in their history beating Bradford City in the final of the Capital One Cup.

The final straw appears to have come after Laudrup took a short break to Paris after the weekend defeat at West Ham which brought to a head the differences between managers’ Spanish circle and others at the club.

At the start of the season Swansea broke off contact with Laudrup’s agent over concerns about the increasing influence of Spanish players within the club.

In recent weeks police were called to the club training ground after reports of Chico Flores picking up a brick to confront Gary Monks in training. Monks has been appointed caretaker manager alongside Allan Curtis.

It’s believed that the club brought in a rule banning any more than three Spanish players could sit together at a table for meals!

Swansea currently have eight players signed from Spanish clubs with a further two on loan to the club.

The timing of the sacking has caused surprise with a derby match at home to Cardiff coming up on Saturday and the transfer window closed.

Swansea are currently sitting in 12th place in the Premiership but are only two points above third bottom West Ham.

Weighorst is of course an ex Dundee players and was not a bad manager in his own right – maybe door will open for a return to vacant Dundee post.

Morten was a victim of being part of Laudrup’s baggage. A fantastic football player, Laudrup never has been, never will be a successful manager. I watched with interest his time at Brondby , with John “Faxe”Jensen as his assistent. “Faxe” was the driving force on the touchline, while Laudrup sat in the dug out, looking as though he wasn’t interested. Another case of great football players don’t neceserally make good football managers.

What do you think will be Morten’s next move in management/ coaching?

      • bhoysrus says:

I’m sure Morten has a future somewhere in coaching/management. He had success and was well thought of during his time with F.C.Nordsjaelland and with Denmark’s U21’s.

Like I say it’s an opportunity for Dundee. Has more pedigree that Paul Hartley so it seems logical to me that his former club should come calling.
