Tony WattTony Watt fired in a double last night as Lierse won 5-1 away to Bergen Mons.

The on loan Celtic striker has struck a rich run of goals with 7 goals in his last 5 matches helping Lierse to an unbeaten run yielding 13 points out of 15.

With another three points on the board Stanley Menzo’s side are now sitting ninth in the table with the relegation concerns before Christmas fading fast.

Berfen Mons took the lead shortly before half-time but had no answer to the Lierse attack after the break with Senegal striker Mario Diagne scoring twice around the hour mark to put the visitors in front.

Watt then demonstrated his confidence and finishing ability with goals in the 72nd and 87th minutes to put the match beyond Mons with Diagne completing his hat-trick in stoppage time.

Despite Diagne’s hat-trick Watt was most observers man-of-the-match and told Lierse TV: “It was a tough game, it wasn’t easy but we turned it around in the second half.

“As a team we have the fighting spirit and thanks to big Mario he started scoring and grew in confidence.

“It was good to play next to him, he’s a big boy with a good touch and our front four are flying just now and finding the goals.

“I’m trying to get as many goals as I can, I think that’s nine in all competitions, hopefully I can push on and get more, I think that I’ve only made eight starts.

“We made it hard for ourselves, we made it difficult in the first half. The only way that we’d lose would be if we didn’t perform but thankfully we pulled it out the bag in the second half.

“I was having a bad game in the first half but we turned it round, I still had a few bad touches but I’ll blame that on the pitch.”

Aaaaaarrrrrrrrggghhhh! Tony Bhoy’s form is blistering at the moment against better quality opposition than can be found in Scotland! His form puts Stokes, Pukki, Balde and Samaras to shame.
    Could’ve done with him yesterday!!!

  • Iain says:

The boy Diagne looks like a good player , worth a punt for Celtic ?

    • HoopNo7 says:

Anothervpunt is not what we need i dont think… yesterday was evidence of the punts lenny has made

You are joking! As Lenny said two weeks ago, the first goal we lose, the first defeat and we get slaughtered. But by our own fans? Get a life! Celtic have gone undefeated by SPL opposition all season until yesterday, February 8th. We have a record string of clean sheets in all competitions, yet you complain about the quality of the squad? Why don’t you take a wee trip to Govan and watch a real sorry squad instead, even if just to get that reality check!
This squad was good enough to break records and if they had played at 60% instead of 40% would be in the draw for the next round. One defeat and you are all doom and gloom! Wake up to reality.

          Hi Joe.
It’s true we went on a good run, unbeaten, with clean sheets thrown in for good measure. However I think we papered over a lot of cracks during that period.
In my opinion we were decidedly average in many of those games, and, truth be told only put on a couple of what I thought were really top notch performances.
The two games just prior to the Aberdeen game for example, 4-0 against Hibs, was a bit harsh on them, and the 1-0 against St Mirren was hardly mind blowing stuff, yet, Neil Lennon described it as “fast free flowing football”.
His comments may have been for public consumption, not wanting to slag off the players in public, but then again I feel he truly believed it.
Unfortunately judging by the ever growing number of empty seats it would seem many of the fans don’t.
Unbeaten runs only really count in cup ties, dropped points in the league can be overcome but lose in the cup and it’s ta ta .
And, if we want to look at records we seem to fail quite miserably on too many occasions to much lesser opposition than Aberdeen, so, I don’t think it’s just this defeat that galls with many, it’s, in my opoinion a failure to recognise and learn from our past mistakes.
But will I be back supporting them next week ?, Bloody oath I will !!!
          Hail Hail

I believe he is on loan from Juventus

  • OldRossCo says:

He looks confident. Scored two and set one up (effectively). It is a pity he didn’t come back at the window, but at least his progress wasn’t disturbed and he can come back a better player in May. He seems to be able to utilise his pace better over there where our opposition tend to sit a bit deeper, so it might suit him more.

  • Martybhoy says:

We could have done with him yesterday instead of the imposter Samaras aka Lennon’s blind spot. Hope Tony gets a chance next season.

  • gareth says:

get rid of the dead wood (samaras and co )

  • john bhoy byrne says:

Celts can have a bad day,on the day the best team won

  • tam says:

Disappointing thing is we have had results like this in recent seasons. Neils cup record is truly awful.

Sammy has thrown in the towel, I would go as far as to never play him again.

Stokes! What the hell has happened to the player he was 2 or 3 seasons back?

Let’s hope tony watt comes back to us a better player

  • Andy says:

We struggle with Sammy and Stokes in the same team they both want to play wide and their play is predictable.
Tony Watt should be starting every week if he’s been misbehaving then Lenny should have dealt with it,he should not be sending him on loan in the hope someone else sorts him out.

  • Aldo says:

Champions league experienced striker, good goals record in a decent european league and a celtic die hard…..you can’t have a better CV than that

if he’s no back with us for pre season it’s an outrage
