Dylan McGeouch newsCallum McGregor got the better of Dylan McGeouch at the weekend as Notts County comprehensively beat Coventry 3-0 at Meadow Lane to move out of the League One relegation zone.

McGregor didn’t get on the score-sheet but after a few disappointing results it looks like new County boss Sean Derry is steering his side clear of dropping into the bottom tier of the English game.

The home side were already 2-0 up before McGeoch appeared as a half time substitute with Coventry boss Steven Pressley badly let down by his side.

“It’s not often that I say this about my own team, but they looked hungrier than us today,” the former Falkirk boss said. “The intensity of our work, especially in the first half, wasn’t good enough.

“The other aspect of it was that we lacked a focal point, we couldn’t get any level of momentum. Overall, it was a disappointing performance from us.

“I was brought here to try and change a culture and bring a winning mentality to the club, and I think we have progressed in that manner but we can’t be a team which does it once every two matches, it’s got to be every single week, and the players are aware of that.

“It will fester with me all week, and that’s the truth.”

In the same division Bahrudin Atajic was given just 19 minutes action as Shrewsbury lost 2-0 away to Sheffield United allowing the blades to move two points above Shrewsbury into fourth bottom place.

With more than a third of the season still to play the loan bhoys are sure of plenty of action in the reality end of the game with Coventry, Notts County and Shrewsbury all involved in scraps for survival.
