Tom Rogic newsTom Rogic has been reassured that he is in Australia’s World Cup plans.

The midfielder went on loan to Melbourne Victory last month in a bid to secure his place in the Socceroos squad for Brazil.

Rogic suffered a bad ankle injury last weekend but should be fit to travel to London with the Aussie squad for Wednesday’s friendly with Ecuador at the New Den.

New national coach Ange Postecoglou has extensive knowledge of Rogic and hopes that the hoops midfielder will have a long term future in the international side.

“The time for us has come to look to this World Cup and the next World Cup and try and build a new golden generation of footballers,” Postecoglou explained.

”The make-up of this squad is what it will look like moving forward. It’s good to see Rogic playing again. We’ll have to see how he gets through with his injury on the weekend, but if he’s fit and available then he’s one we can give that (attacking midfield) opportunity to.

“Beyond that it’s up to the individual players. I’m not going to say it’s one or another, I think there’s a number of them.”

Australia have one of the toughest World Cup groups with the draw putting them in alongside Spain, Holland and Chile which has certainly choked any expectations of progress in Brazil.

With their squad mainly based in Europe, London is a natural home for  the international squad with some familiar names facing Ecuador such as former Rangers midfield dynamo Matt Mackay and Ryan McGowan who left Hearts for China.
