Joe Thomson newsCeltic’s classy kids stormed Murray Park tonight to beat Sevco 2-0 and go to the top of the SPFL u-20 table.

Second half goals from Conor McManus and Joe Thomson were enough to give the visitors full points with the home side having Chris Hegarty red carded in the closing minutes.

Without the injured Darnell Fisher, Filip Twardzik and Holmbert Fridjonsson the visitors had to turn to youth and weren’t let down as they dominated the match from start to finish.

With cash tight for the home side the match was played in front of an invited audience at the state-of-the-art Murray Park training facility which has produced a galaxy of stars down the years.

Celtic showed no respect for the current crop of superstars and took the lead eight minutes into the second half when McManus netted from close range after a Thomson shot had struck the crossbar.

Celtic refused to sit back on their one goal advantage and doubled their lead in the 79th minute when Thomson finished off a great move involving Paul McMullan and Jamie Lindsay.

There was no sign of a fight back from the home side who were a beaten team long before they left for the pavilion and some words of wisdom from Gordon Durie.

Celtic face Motherwell and Hibs next week and complete the campaign at home to Sevco on May 6.
