Campbell Ogilvie Rangers newsAlloa chairman Mike Mulraney has explained why the SPFL want radical change of the SFA to bring it closer to the needs of the professional game.

Four proposals will be put forward at the SFA AGM next month that will ensure that the SFA are more accountable to the clubs that underwrite the lifestyles of Stewart Regan and co.

Memories of the botched summer of 2012 are still fresh for supporters across the game as Regan attempted to ensure a tp table place for a club from Ibrox regardless of the impact on other law abiding clubs.

Many supporters would like to see the old boy network that produces presidents like George Peat and heavily conflicted Campbell Ogilvie swept from power with the AGM proposals the first signs of an uprising against the SFA.

Mulraney explained: “They have rules that seem archaic so why do we not move them forward into the 21st century? Changes seem obvious so why not make them.

“I feel it was appropriate not to wait another year or another year after that to make sure the best people are elected. Not on the basis of how long they’ve been in post. It seems like a no brainer. We should be electing the best. The Bank of England elected Mark Carney – he didn’t need an eight-year apprenticeship.

“The chairman of Tesco doesn’t have to do an apprenticeship. And there’s no chance of someone such as a Craig Whyte getting in because he would never in a million years be elected by the members.

“Do we not trust ourselves to use rational selection criteria to select the best? If not we should pack up and go.”

Under Mulraney Alloa have achieved back-to-back promotions to reach the Championship while retaining a part-time set up. Despite Scotland failing to make a major championship since 1998 Regan, Ogilvie and other SFA blazers will spend the bulk of the summer on the FIFA gravy train in Brazil.

Mulraney is on the SPFL board alongside Les Gray of Hamilton Celtic’s Eric Reilly and Bill Darroch of Stenhousemuir.

The haphazard approach to justice from compliance officer Vincent Lunney and the handling of the Scottish Cup semi-finals are just two of the issues that the SFA have come under fire for this season.

Prior to becoming SFA President Peat had been on the board of directors that took Airdrionians into liquidation before moving to Stenhousemuir. Ogilvie served as a director of Rangers prior to liquidation and Hearts as they headed to administration.
