Paul Lambert Aston VillaPaul Lambert has no fears over his Aston Villa future.

Speculation is rife that change is on the way with club owner Randy Lerner promising to make a statement in the coming days about his intentions for the club.

The American took charge in 2006 but after some early success under Martin O’Neill the club has been battling relegation for the last four seasons.

Supporters have been increasingly critical of Lambert but the former Celtic captain is relaxed about his future regardless of who is in the boardroom.

Asked whether he would have to reconsider his position if there is a change of ownership Lambert replied: “No, that’s never crossed my mind. I think everything will become clear in the next few days.

“Randy’s been straight as a die with me, there’s no problem on that front. I’ll speak to him over the weekend and no doubt I’ll probably get a guide on it shortly.

“I think it will happen pretty soon but it won’t happen before the game and it won’t happen directly after the game.”

Asked about his dialogue with the club owner Lambert added: “We only ever speak about the games. It’s always been ‘how was the game?’ and ‘is everything all right?’ ‘no problem’.

“He’s never said anything about my future, nothing like that. I’m totally relaxed about everything. I fully intend to be here. There’s not much more to tell you, I can’t say anything.

“I can only give you an honest answer that he will say it when he’s ready to say it but I don’t know, I really don’t.

“I just know we’ve got another game to go and the most important thing is that this club is a Premier League club. It wouldn’t be a good place to come if it was a Championship club that’s for sure.”
