Paul Lambert Villa newsPaul Lambert remains in the dark about his future despite steering Aston Villa to Premiership survival.

Today’s 3-1 win over Hull City means that Norwich must beat Chelsea and Arsenal and turn around an 18 goal deficit to relegate Villa who have two games left to play.

An end of season announcement from Randy Learner is expected to signal a change of ownership with the American likely to sell up after discovering that there isn’t any profit to be made in the Premiership.

Lambert was given plenty of leeway last season after replacing Alex McLeish but has been the subject of criticism from fans after Villa’s struggles this season .

Amazingly Lambert is the fourth longest serving Premiership manager but that won’t guarantee the former Celtic skipper a job if Villa change ownership.

“You’re asking me a question I can’t give an answer to and that’s me being honest,” he responded when asked about a possible change in ownership of the club.

“The chairman will come out and say what he’s going to say and I really don’t know what he will say. His statement is what it is. I understand what has gone on in the last few weeks and I’m pretty sure people will find out soon.”

Looking at his own relationship with the Villa fans he added: “I think people were probably thinking there would be some animosity towards myself – and if that happens you’ve got to accept it – but the start we got put everybody in a good frame of mind.

“This game was huge. I’ve been involved in some massive games before, but the pressure on this one was incredible. They came through it and if they came though that they can come through everything in their careers. I thought they were outstanding and we deserved to win.”
