Jackie McNamara Celtic newsDundee United will be backed by their BIGGEST EVER support when they play St Johnstone in the final of the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

This morning ticket sales went through the 28,000 barrier- overtaking the crowd that watched United beat Barcelona at Tannadice in the sixties. With St Johnstone selling over 15,000 tickets the attendance at tomorrow’s match could be close to 50,000 as the second anniversary of Armageddon looms.

Much more tickets could have been sold if a more sensible pricing policy had been set by the SFA with the majority of tickets costing £35 with very few family tickets available to encourage parents to take their kids to the match.

Commenting on the clubs ticket sales Tannadice director Derek Robertson said: “This will be the largest ever gathering of Arabs for a game and that is fantastic.

“We have broken a 48 year old record and the team will receive such a boost from the size of the crowd and the noise it creates. If the team can now win the trophy that would make for an unbeatable weekend.”

Tomorrow’s match is bound to provoke plenty of memories for the United management team of Jackie McNamara, Simon Donnelly and Darren Jackson. McNamara made his final Celtic appearance in the 2005 Scottish Cup win over Dundee United at Hampden before moving on to join Wolves.

Other than Celtic, United have probably been the most talked about team in Scottish football over the last twelve months with McNamara putting together an exciting young team in his first full season in charge of the club.

The winners of the Scottish Cup will join Aberdeen and Motherwell in next season’s Europa League.
