Sami was quoted as saying that he wanted to stay. Neil Lennon was quoted as saying he wanted him to stay and that a contract was on the table for him. Sami was quoted as saying that the club never offered an extension at all.
Like a lot of things, I think that asks more questions than it answers. Who’s version of events are correct ?
Why, if the player and the manager want him to sign an extension did he not sign an extension ? I seem to remember writing a similar thing about Stokes when he was in the process of negotiating an extension.
The fact of the matter is that I and probably, a large amount of people reading this, wont know much about contract extensions so it’s difficult to know why the player is now moving on.
I think it’s safe to say that, at the top of this game, the guy can be great. In the 2012/13 Champions League campaign opponents struggled against him as have various players in the SPL.
At this point, I’d just like to say ‘all the best’ to the guy and hope that he moves on to see out the rest of his career with another successful club.
The next thing that I have been reading about is a possible friendly match v Rapid Vienna. When the initial bad blood between us and them started, I was just past my 2nd birthday so I guess I can be forgiven for not having the same feelings towards them that some people in the generation before me might have.
That said, I’m not convinced that playing them again is a good idea. I have no real respect for the club and I have no real desire to play against a team like that. I certainly don’t see it as a friendly match – pretty much in the same way that I don’t see why we agreed to play v Ajax in a friendly not long ago in Turkey.
