Leigh Griffiths news

Leigh Griffiths will end another eventful season on Wednesday night when Scotland face Nigeria.

His tussle with Efe Ambrose is likely to be closely watched as the striker chases his first goal at full international level.

Twelve months ago Griffiths was recovering from a Scottish Cup Final defeat from Celtic and wondering if he would be recalled by new Wolves boss Kenny Jackett.

A January transfer to Celtic has provided fulfillment on the park but off the pitch controversy continues to follow on.

Video of a Hibs fan singing about Hearts going burst was welcomed by most Celtic fans but singing about refugees had some supporters calling for the club to sack the striker.

Griffiths is still the subject of a police report- and SFA investigation- but despite those issues he has remained in Gordon Strachan’s squad and was chosen by the SFA to preview the clash with Nigeria.

Looking at 12 months of involvement with the full international squad he told the SFA website: “The game over in Croatia was a great experience and, although we didn’t qualify for the World Cup, we’ve  really kicked on since then.

“We were beaten by two good sides in Belgium and England, but I think we gave a good account of ourselves in both games, and since then we’ve been unbeaten.

“My aim is to make myself a part of the manager’s plans going in to the qualifying campaign and I’ll be looking to make an impact if I get the chance to play against Nigeria.

“It’s the last match before the qualifiers start and we all want to end the season on a high, and keep the good run of results, and performances, going in to the competitive matches.

“I hear there are a good few thousand Scotland fans coming down. The supporters always travel in numbers and we’ll be looking to thank them by putting on a good performance.”

Scott Brown and Charlie Mulgrew are also in the Scotland squad.
