Imran Ahmad is going back to the Court of Session on Tuesday to safeguard the £500,000 he claims he is owed by Sevco.
The former Ibrox commercial director was sacked 12 months ago despite being one of the original investors in the new club alongside his business partners Charles Green and Ally McCoist.
Ahmad brought in a number of lucrative deals during his time at the club including the Puma and Blackthorn shirt sponsorships as well as a lucrative deal with Marbill Coach Hire. He is also claiming a commission on the £22m IPO in December 2012.
Just over a year ago Mr Ahmad left Ibrox under a cloud accused of leaking details of the clubs’ business and using online forums to discredit other Ibrox executives.
Earlier this year Mr Ahmad attempted to freeze £500,000 from the Sevco bank account over his fears that the club was trading insolvently and wouldn’t be able to honour his claim if he was successful.
Lord Tyre rejected that claim but in recent weeks a number of factors have contributed to fears over the future of Sevco despite the club being 90 minutes away from completing their League One campaign undefeated.
Chief among those concerns is a warning from the club auditors questioning the ‘going concern’ status of the club if there isn’t an increase in the number and value of season ticket’s sold.
With several fan groups advocating that supporters boycott season ticket sales it’s believed that less than 3,000 tickets have been sold with the deadline put back until May 16 in an attempt to keep the lights on up the hallowed marble stairway.
As recently as last week company director Sandy Easdale, who served a prison sentence in the 1990’s for fraud, admitted that the finances of the club were fragile.
With emergency loans taken out in February to meet the payroll it could be the case that Ahmad’s claim tips the club into administration with liquidation likely to follow soon after.
