Emilio Izaguirre is drawing confidence from Honduras’ 0-0 draw with England as he looks ahead to today’s World Cup opener with France.

Last Saturday’s clash in Miami was followed by a lot of squealing from the England camp at the physical nature of how Honduras approached the friendly.

After losing to Turkey and Israel the draw with England was a real morale boost for Honduras with Izaguirre looking forward to a similar performance against the French.

“The game against England was very important for us because we had lost our two games before that so a very good draw with England has given us confidence we can do well against France, in our opening game,” the Celtic defender said.

“I can see England having a very good World Cup because they have some of the best players. France have a very good side too. They have lots of experienced players who play for the big clubs but when we play them we will not just try to not lose – we will try to win.

“I know they don’t have Ribery but they still have Karim Benzema from Real Madrid and Loic Remy who has played in England with QPR and Newcastle United. They have very good players who can hurt you.

“Maybe no one gives us much hope but that’s okay for us. We think we have a chance to get out of the group.”

The France v Honduras match kick’s off at 8pm CPT with the two other side’s in the group, Switzerland and Ecuador kicking-off at 5pm CPT.
