Emilio Izaguirre will join Celtic in Austria next week after an EIGHT day close season break.

While his team-mates relaxed and holidayed after winning the title the full back was on international duty with Honduras preparing for the World Cup.

Honduras bombed out of the World Cup- with less points than England- with Izaguirre immediately flying to Miami for a brief family holiday.

With Celtic facing KR Reykjavic in just over a fortnight in a Champions League qualifier Izaguirre will be having the shortest of breaks as he prepares to make his mark under new Celtic boss Ronny Deila.

“I said goodbye to all my colleagues in the dressing room because he had to catch a flight the same night (Wednesday, straight after Honduras lost Switzerland) with my family,” the defender explained.

It was like what happened in South Africa, after the last game, we all on the same flight, but in this case, after 48 days of being without my family, I sought it out right away to enjoy them just eight days rest that I have before reporting to Celtic.”

Izaguirre started in Honduras’ first two matches but was substituted at half-time against Ecuador and left out of the team that lost to Switzerland.

The defender’s commitment to international football can’t be questioned but after putting so much into the World Cup campaign he was left deflated by how his competition ended.

“This moment has been hard for me, my family went to Brazil to see me play and could not,” he added. “We are saddened by this, but we think we have to raise spirits. This is not for just now, the mistakes we made must not be repeated, hopefully we can qualify for the next World Cup in Russia.

“Everyone is guilty. Beginning with the coaching staff because they are the decision makers and then the players who were on the pitch.”

Celtic fly to Austria tomorrow for a fortnight’s preparations before Deila faces his first competitive match in Iceland.
