Aston Villa have joined Swansea and Sunderland in the chase for Ki Sung Yeung.

The former Celtic midfielder spent last season on loan at Sunderland after falling out with Michael Laudrup but is wanted back in Wales by Garry Monk.

Further complications have set in with Aston Villa declaring their interest in the player who left Celtic for £6m in 2012, it’s likely that the hoops will have inserted a sell-on clause on that deal.

Ki is back with Swansea following the World Cup with the Welsh side keen to tie him up onto an improved dealL.

“Garry Monk has spoken to him already, but it’s important that they have another chat and we will decide on where we go after that.”

Ki made 30 appearances on loan at Sunderland last season making a big impression in the Carling Cup semi-finals where Gus Poyet’s side beat Manchester United over two legs, the previous season he was a Wembley winner with Swansea lifting the Carling Cup.

Although signed during the doomed Tony Mowbray regime Ki made his mark at Celtic under Neil Lennon and scored the opening goal in the 2011 Scottish Cup final win over Motherwell at Hampden.

The following season, after competing in the Olympics he was sold to Swansea with his international commitments with South Korea probably putting other clubs off from signing the 25-year-old.

Swansea finished last season in 12th place but slipped into the relegation zone following the sacking of Laudrup with Monk promoted from within the club into his first managerial role.
