Cameroon Home ShirtThe Cameroon FA have launched a probe into claims that seven players were involved in match fixing during the 4-0 World Cup defeat from Croatia.

German newspaper, Der Spiegel, has published a claim from a convicted match-fixer in Singapore that the game with Croatia was rigged at the same time as the Cameroon FA, the brilliantly named FECAFOOT, launched their investigation into the nation’s dismal performances in Brazil.

Joseph Owona, president of the Normalisation Committee of FECAFOOT said: “Recent allegations of fraud around Cameroon’s three 2014 World Cup games, especially Cameroon v Croatia, as well the existence of “seven bad apples (in our national team)” do not reflect the values and principles promoted by our administration.

“We wish to inform the general public that, though not yet contacted by FIFA in regards to this affair, our administration has already instructed its Ethics Committee to further investigate these accusations.

“We are strongly committed to employ all means necessary to resolve this disruptive matter with the shortest delay.”

The allegations centre on bets placed on a 4-0 scoreline as well as the first half sending off of Alex Song for elbowing. In injury time Benoit Assou-Ekotto tried to head-butt Benjamin Moukandjo.

After the defeat Cameroon coach Volker Finke told French newspaper L’Eqippe: “Some players behaved very badly, and that’s why we have conceded four goals. I know that it is difficult to play with 10 men, but that is not a reason to lose it to this point.

“The game was balanced until the red card. The Croatians were more clinical in front of goal, but Cameroon also had chances to score.

“The behaviour of some of the players is really not satisfactory. Even when we were 11-a-side, it was not acceptable.”

FIFA haven’t launched an investigation of their own and will wait the findings from the Cameroon FA.
