Champions LeagueRonny Deila has explained the delay in his transfer dealings.

While the hoops boss prepares for his second competitive game of the season tomorrow night against KR Reykjavik in the Champions League most clubs and players are just starting to return to pre-season training following the World Cup.

So far Deila has only added Craig Gordon to the squad that he inherited from Neil Lennon with the Norwegian highlighting the issues that have delayed his transfer activity.

“We are working to try to get someone in,” he said preparing for the return leg with KR. “It is a bad time, it costs more money. It is also about finding the right ones. I am after quality.

“It has to be someone who can come straight in and do something at once and that is very difficult. Or get a player who will be a good player in a while.

“Some clubs haven’t started training yet so we have to find the right options. If the players aren’t going to make the team better then it is better to wait but we hope to get players in to make the team better and make Celtic better as a club.”

Delays in the transfer market give players like Callum McGregor, Filip Twardzik and Liam Henderson the opportunity to stake their claims for a first team place with all three likely to be involved tomorrow night.

Deila will mark his ‘home’ debut by leading Celtic out at Murrayfield but the Norwegian has no complaints about playing at a rugby ground.

It is a very good pitch, I don’t think there will be any problem,” he said. “The team will have the support and that is important and the pitch is perfect. So no excuses.”
