Champions LeagueCeltic will face Legia Warsaw in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

The Polish side won 5-0 away to St Pat’s tonight to go through on a 6-1 aggregate.

Celtic will travel to the Polish capital for the first leg next Tuesday or Wednesday, July 29/30, with the return leg at Murrayfield the following week.

The winners of the Celtic/Legia tie will progress into the final qualifying round with the losers dropping into the Europa League play-off round.

After being held to a 1-1 draw at home to St. Pat’s Henning Berg’s side got the result that they needed thanks to a 25th minute goal from striker Miroslav Radovic.

That goal forced St Pat’s into a more attacking game but they paid the price with 20 minutes left to play when Michael Zyro doubled Legia’s lead with goals coming from Radovic, Marek Saganowski and a Conor Byrne own goal in the last ten minutes.

The clash of Celtic and Legia will put two Norwegian coaches into direct opposition with Berg looking forward to the opportunity of facing Deila.

“I hope Ronny and I can meet in this competition,” he said after the draw threw up the possibility of a Celtic-Legia clash. “He’s well respected for the club he built at Stromsgodset over many years. He struggled there early on but the club gave him a vote of confidence and he continued to develop and produce teams that played some good football.

“And yes, I know about my record against Celtic when I was at Rangers (IL). They were better than us that year, no doubt, but if we do get through to the next round we won’t be playing at Celtic Park this time.

“I know the game is going to Murrayfield. I haven’t been in the stadium but I know it and it should be okay. I stress we must get past St Pat’s first.”

Earlier today Celtic’s development side beat Morton’s first team 3-0 at Lennoxtown with Tony Watt playing for the first half.
